Penny

My story

Apply to Adopt Me! Penny is a sweet butterball of a chihuahua. She is 12 years old, weighs 12 pounds, and is housebroken and pee-pad trained. (She will not go out while it’s raining so a pee-pad is a great tool.) Penny came into the rescue with her friend Kiwi, another adorable chihuahua. She was rescued from a home with 9 other dogs, so she needs individual attention, which she didn't get in her former home. Penny is shy and hesitates when you try to pick her up at first, but once she adjusts to her new home, she is affectionate and wants to be next to you. If you are paying attention to another dog, she stands as close as she can to that dog to get some love. She loves to sunbathe, and chase birds and squirrels with her house mates. She prefers to sleep in bed under the sheets with her person, but she is also ok sleeping on the floor next to her foster mom’s bed. At bedtime, her foster mom covers her with a light blanket. She rolls around under the blanket before she settles down to sleep. While she is waiting for her food, she cutely dances around her bowl. Penny is afraid of thunder, and she wants to be with her person during a storm (and under a blanket). She walks well on a leash. Penny has learned that her foster cat is not to be chased, but she still watches her.  A quiet discussion with Penny will redirect her energy elsewhere. Penny does need a companion dog around her speed and size who will allow her to be close. We are requiring an all-adult home for her and we are hoping for a fenced outside space for her.
