Kane came to ACCT Philly after his family was forced to surrender him due to housing restrictions—despite their love for him, their landlord would not allow dogs in the home. Kane had lived with them for six months after being given to them by a friend and was described as calm, friendly, and deeply attached to his people. In the shelter, Kane has shown that while the environment can be overwhelming for him, he has a gentle and thoughtful nature. He takes treats delicately and knows basic commands like sit, stay, and come. Kane’s playgroup sessions showed that, although initially wary of other dogs, he can warm up and become a playful, goofy companion with time and patience. He seems to prefer a quieter home and would thrive best in an adult-only household where he can feel safe and loved. Kane is currently eligible for rescue, foster and adoption. Head to ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering him! He really is a sensitive boy who is easy to take in and out of his kennel. While strong on leash, in a harness he walks much better and loves pets and clearly is very happy to see other dogs on our walk. Great dog that just needs a little time to warm up to his handler but appears to LOVE other dogs. Per volunteer 6/1 Playgroup notes: Kane is a soft and shy dog. In the play yard, he retained some shyness but was quickly won over by the other dogs. Kane engaged in push-pull play with a female dog (Gail) and greeted other dogs appropriately as well. He would back off and give space to dogs that were stiff/uncomfortable. Kane is quite sick and was coughing a lot. He LOVES treats. 06/01/2025 volunteer notes: First time meeting Kane who waited patiently in his kennel for me to take him out. Easy to leash and while a little nervous to start with started to warm up as we spent some time together walking around the parking lot. He's strong on leash and recovering from a doggy cold. When he saw a male kennel attendant he liked his body language become loser and more wiggly and he pulled over for pets and attention, it was very adorable, he enjoyed seeing his buddy again. We walked past the doggy play club and he was visibly very happy to see other dogs, I later saw Kane out with another volunteer taking part in doggy play group, he was having fun with the other dogs. 05/31/2025 volunteer notes: I approach the kennel. He was laying in a ball at the door sleeping, he was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash outside. He remained shy and unsure, with low tail not wagging, stiff body and Mouth closed. although he did give me some low tail wags with pretzeling and ears back when I offered him pepperoni. Offers a sit when he sees treats. Also, a staff member approached, and he did the same behavior, which is very nice to see. He will remain experienced Blue for now. 05/27/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Kane was scared of the dogs at the gate, hard barking with his hackles raised, tucked tail and lowered body. He was steerable and came into the yard very nervous. He greeted everyone and began opening up into a playful goofy boy once he had more time with the other dogs. 05/26/2025 Behavior Eval: Standing at the front of the kennel, he has furrowed brow, ears to the side, tail tucked. He was easy to loop using some treats on the floor. He walked with a middle-high tail not wagging, hackles raised. Once outside the tail tucked and hackles subsided. Eyes darting. Head low. He took treats gently and knows sit. Each time I tried to touch him he did a head whip towards my hand. No interest in play Easy to return to kennel Exp blue 05/25/2025 volunteer notes When I walked by Kane's kennel he was curled up sleeping on the kennel floor on the far side. I got his attention and he lifted his head so I threw in some hot dogs. He cautiously stood up and slowly came towards the front of the kennel. I gave him a few hot dogs which he seemed to enjoy and he took them so gently. MEDICAL 05/25/2025 Unable to check in right now, dog was jumping on the door trying to get out and did growl once when coming into the room.
