At just 6 months old, this adorable Boston Terrier is already housebroken, knows how to sit for treats, walks on a leash, and absolutely adores snuggling and giving kisses. One of her favorite things? Riding shotgun on car rides—she’s the perfect co-pilot! Her spay is scheduled June 3rd.  Recently, we noticed Maggie wasn’t responding to verbal commands as she once did. A trip to the vet confirmed what we suspected: Maggie is deaf. Suddenly, everything made more sense. Since then, we’ve been working with her on hand signals and basic sign language. She’s eager to learn, but her boundless puppy energy makes it hard for her to stay focused just yet. Maggie is discovering the world in her own unique way, and it’s clear she’s filled with wonder. However, her deafness means she doesn’t realize when someone is trying to get her attention, which has made things challenging for her current caregiver—an elderly man who lives in a small apartment community. Despite his love for her, Maggie’s strength and energy have caused him to fall during walks, even requiring assistance to get back up. With a heavy heart, he knows Maggie needs a home better equipped to meet her needs. Maggie would thrive in a home with someone experienced in working with deaf dogs or someone committed to learning alongside her. A fenced yard would be ideal, and continued training with hand signals will help her become the amazing companion we know she can be.
