My story

Lacey is a 3-year-old Pitbull mix who came to us after being rescued from the streets of Texas, where stray dogs often roam in heartbreaking numbers. She was part of a pair—inseparable with her male companion—until he passed away. It was only after that heartbreaking loss that rescuers were finally able to gain Lacey’s trust and bring her to safety. One of our incredible volunteers drove through the night to bring her to us, and from the moment she arrived, we knew she was something special. Lacey has the gentlest eyes and a soft, wiggly body that speaks volumes of her kind spirit. She carries a quiet sweetness that instantly melts hearts. Shortly after her arrival, we learned that Lacey is battling heartworm. She’s now undergoing the long, difficult treatment that requires her to stay calm and still for several months—an incredibly hard task for a young pup who just wants to run, play, and be loved. Though she isn’t quite yet ready for adoption, Lacey is surrounded by compassion and care as she begins this new chapter. We can already see glimpses of the joyful, silly, loving dog she’s becoming, and we are counting down the days until she’s fully healed and ready to share her light with a forever family. As she nears the end of her treatment, we are thrilled to say that Lacey will soon be ready for adoption—and we are currently accepting applications! Lacey’s journey is one of trust, healing, and love—and now she’s almost ready to write the next chapter of her life with a forever family by her side.
