Coco is a 4-year-old, 6.5kg spayed female with three legs. Coco is cautious around strangers and is very afraid of men. She was rescued after her hind legs got caught in a trap and brought to the shelter. Although she received treatment after being rescued, it is likely that she perceives men (especially doctors) as very frightening. However, with her female guardian, she quickly builds a strong bond if initial trust is established, and she becomes an inseparable, affectionate companion. Coco approaches and greets even unfamiliar dogs and enjoys playing with them, especially those of similar size. She can be a bit bossy or assertive with larger or impolite dogs, but usually backs down if scolded. She has never fought with other dogs but is confident enough to stand her ground if provoked. Caution is advised when meeting high-energy or provocative, unfamiliar dogs. Overall, her social skills with other dogs are very good. She has not lived with cats, but can be tested. She enjoys outdoor activities at a moderate energy level and relaxes quietly afterward. She loves playing with plush toys. She walks well on a leash without pulling, can wait patiently, adapts to her guardian’s pace, and maintains good eye contact. She is friendly with everyone during walks. She does not guard food from people, but may growl if other dogs approach her while eating or playing with toys. She only growls as a warning and doesn’t fight back when other dogs take it from her.She does not show separation anxiety. She may bark initially when meeting strangers, but calms down quickly. She is calm in a crate and rides well in the car. She currently goes potty outdoors. A dog trainer has been fostering her for three months, and her observed behaviours with her female guardian include: Excitedly greeting when returning home Following her guardian everywhere inside the house Wagging her tail when called by name Climbing onto her guardian’s lap, showing affection, playing energetically, and being lively Recognizing and greeting her guardian outside Showing zero signs of vigilance or fear Her bond with her female guardian is very strong, and her behaviours are even more expressive when they are alone without the male guardian. Relationship with the male guardian: When alone with the male guardian, she whines softly and follows him around, trying to stay close. When with her female guardian, she does not approach the male guardian directly but does not avoid him if approached slowly. She remains somewhat tense but does not retreat. She accepts being touched and handled. She eats treats and food given by hand. She walks very well with any handler during walks. She is comfortable with being handled, such as being carried, bathed, or having her paws cleaned. Rescue Story:Coco’s hind legs were caught in a trap, requiring urgent surgery. She was rescued in late January 2023, received treatment, and was placed in a foster home. Due to her severe fear of men and strangers, immediate adoption was difficult. She has been undergoing continuous training and is currently in a three-month boarding training program at her trainer’s house.
