My story

This 4-month-old German Shepherd/Husky mix is the perfect mix of gentle sweetness and vibrant energy! Currently weighing in around 30 pounds, Violet is a growing girl, and her joyfulness and curiosity are growing right along with her. This charmer has come a long way in building her confidence. Initially found hiding under a porch, she has grown with the help of structure, training, and lots of love. She's attended a puppy starter class, and her foster family has been committed to build her trust with the help of positive reinforcement and ongoing socialization from their resident dogs.Violet is making steady progress with house training but still needs patience and consistency. She's also taking baby steps to feel comfortable in a crate, now choosing to nap in a wire crate placed in her favorite hiding spot. At this point, she will require a home without shared walls (no apartments/townhomes) because she may bark when left alone, especially at first. Exercise before crating is essential, and a frozen treat or chew toy doesn't hurt either!Violet loves stealing toys so the other dogs chase her, and sprawling on her back for unending belly rubs after a good romp in the yard. She loves to really let loose, so she would thrive in a home with a fenced yard, but she has done well with a 25-foot tie-out so far. All she needs is a family who can give her active enrichment, and lots of playtime to burn off her energy. This playful pup adores other dogs and thrives in their company, learning from them throughout the day. She also does well with older, dog-savvy children, especially those around 10 and up. She does not have experience with younger kids or with cats, so a slow and supervised introduction would be needed for either.Just like a violet, she is a sweet pup who just needed a chance to be nurtured and bloom. Violet is sure to bring you smiles and sweetness, and keep you on your toes with her zest for life!If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Violet, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
