My story

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.  Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | August is a gentle yellow lab with soulful eyes and a heart full of hope. He promises to be the best boy—loyal, loving, and forever grateful for a chance at the good life. With every wag of his tail and every nuzzle of his nose, August is ready to show just how much love he has to give. His past doesn’t define him—his future does. And he’s hoping it starts with you. August is ready for a fresh start in Colorado, dreaming of soft beds, mountain walks, and a family to call his own. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.  Personality | Sweet, adoring, playful, adventurous, this boy is the whole package!! Everyone who meets this sweet boy adores him and his gentle personality! The partner rescue he came from can't stop raving about how wonderful he is!Story | August was brought in as a stray in Houston, but with his wonderful demeanor, it's clear he was loved by someone at some point in time.. He is now making his way to Colorado to join Mile High life!Other Dogs | August is great with other dogs! He's happy to share treats with his dog friends and is so sweet!Cats | August hasn't been kitty tested, so the rescue can't speak to how he would do with cats. But he does want to chase the squirrels in the yard indicating a high pray drive.Children | August is good around little humans! He has been described as a very gentle boy! Training | August is a great dog! He's quickly learning all about what it means to be loved as an inside dog now that he's off the streets. He's really a smart dog as he quickly learned the sit command. He can even communicate when he wants a treat as he knows where they are located in the pantry!Leash | August loves to go on walks and will even sit by the door to indicate he wants to go on a walk! He gets super excited when you pull out the leash! The staff at the shelter he was at loved taking him on walks because of house excited and sweet he would get. Activity Level | Low to Moderate. He definitely enjoys walks with his humans! Health Notes | August is LOW heartworm positive (and has recently completed his HW intervention!) Treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting August! Thank you! | Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.June 29, 2025, 12:44 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Eklund / August, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
