My story

Looking for your very own living, breathing Winnie the Pooh bear? You don't even have to venture the hundred acre woods to find him; he's right HERE! Meet Oliver- our big guy with the big brown eyes, and heart of gold. Like Pooh, we believe Oliver spends much of his time saying "oh bother" too. This guy is equal parts sweet and sensitive and generally appears to wear a fretful face in his kennel. But that's just because he longs for his own family and to get the heck outta here. Oliver enjoys the company of appropriate dogs as playmates...but will leave the country if he see's a cat up close. Yup, our big guy is petrified of felines! His previous human had him since 6 weeks old and recently had to surrender Oliver to us because he already had a very large dog and was unable to handle the two of them. The big sensitive lug needs a calm, patient home to help him learn about the world without fear or force. He gravitates to good vibes and gentle baby talk. Recently one of our volunteers brought him to her home for an overnight field trip; and here's what she had to say:"Oliver is a sensitive and intelligent dog who is making steady, observable progress in adapting to new environments and building trust with people. He thrives on structure, patience, and positive reinforcement, and demonstrates a clear desire to connect and please once he feels safe. While initially hesitant-especially around unfamiliar adult males-Oliver has shown that, given time and low-pressure interaction, he is capable of forming strong bonds and engagingaffectionately. He is highly food-motivated, which makes him a responsive and eager participant in training. His play style is interactive but gentle, and he seeks comfort through physical closeness, scent, and music. Notably, Oliver demonstrates good impulse control and the ability to self-regulate,particularly when given access to calming spaces like the sun porch or provided withpredictable routines. Oliver's progress with vehicle transport, response to household stimuli, and social engagement all indicate a dog who is not only capable of growth but actively working through his fears. He is emotionally attuned, observant, and responsive to the energy of those around him. Withcontinued consistency, gentle guidance, and trust-based handling- especially in male interactions- Oliver is well on his way to becoming a confident and secure companion. He will thrive in a home that honors his sensitivity, values positive reinforcement, and gives him the space to bond at his own pace. In return, Oliver offers loyalty, connection, and a playful, affectionate presence".If you'd like to meet Oliver and all his friends at the New Hampshire SPCA, please visit our Adoption Center during our open hours: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day except Wednesdays (closed). Plus, this summer, we will be open until 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays! Have questions? Call (603) 772-2921 ext. 110 or email info@nhspca.org tod Primary Color: Tan Weight: 37.7 Age: 1yrs 7mths 0wks
