A playful, affectionate hound mix with a big personality in a compact frame. ● A little shy at first, but warms up quickly with smooches and snuggles ● Dog-friendly, but not ideal with elderly/sensitive dogs ● Great with kids—gentle and tolerant ● Walks well on a leash, enjoys meeting people ● Good house manners in his foster home. ● Crate-trained - may cry briefly but settles fast. Sleeps quietly in it overnight. ● Protective of his bones and toys ● Loves walking on his back legs—trick dog in the making! ● Loves toys, tug-of-war, and outdoor play ● Cuddly and calm on the couch but exhibits jealousy towards other lap dogs. ● Eats well, loves treats, and enjoys meals in his crate ● Easy to bathe and good in the car ● Knows the difference between dog toys and people things ● Fine being picked up and handled—likes being carried like a baby Vern is full of love and fun—ready to be your loyal little sidekick! Heartworm + I am heartworm positive. I will need to be treated with 28 days of doxycycline (an inexpensive antibiotic) before I receive my heartworm injections. Mixed mutt! ODHS does not breed label (unless there's official paperwork), as studies show it is nearly impossible to tell the exact breed of each dog based off of their appearance. More "sought out breeds may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees. Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption. We typically have adoption events on Weds 5-7pm, Fri 6-8pm, Sat 11am - 3pm, and Sun 11am - 1pm. Our adoption center is located at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Suite 101, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. It's important that you keep an eye on your emails for any changes or updates during the adoption process. Old Dominion Humane Society is a volunteer based organization. We are run completely by volunteers, who also have full time jobs, so we appreciate your patience. Currently, the average timeframe for a response to your application is 1 week.
