Jax (ACCT-A-221506) was brought to ACCT Philly on May 28th, 2025, after being found running at large and transported by police. Despite the circumstances, he immediately showed a calm and approachable demeanor, allowing staff to leash him without issue and walking well alongside them. Jax has proven himself to be a loving, people-oriented companion with a sweet and attentive personality. Volunteers and staff consistently note how easy he is to handle—he walks nicely on leash, takes treats gently, and seeks affection from his handlers. He enjoys cuddles, belly rubs, and even gives kisses. While his initial playgroup experiences were positive and sociable, one incident on May 31st highlighted that he may do best with one-on-one dog play under supervision rather than group settings. Outside of playgroup, Jax has been observed to disengage calmly when seeing other dogs and remains focused on his handler. His lower energy level, patience, and gentle nature suggest he could thrive in a home with children. He loves to snuggle too. Per volunteer 6/1/2025: I spent some time with Jax on Sunday, June 1st. Jax appears to be very housetrained. The instant we stepped outside, he took a very long pee break. Jax is a wonderful, sweet, and playful boy. He sat calmly for treats and accepted them gently. He showed his appreciation with zoomies. Jax loves attention. He enjoyed scratches all over and rolled onto his back for belly rubs. He was very easy to walk and mostly stayed at my side during our walk. Sometimes, he would stay so close to me, he'd bump into my legs as we walked. He would frequently look up to me on our journey. Jax rarely pulled and walked at a calm pace. I had no issues taking Jax out of or returning him to his kennel. 06/01/2025 Behavior evaluation: Very loose and wiggly, very soft features with eyes, ears, and tail wagging when I approached. Walked on a loose leash outside and is very social and handler oriented, with a lower energy level. takes treats gently. Allowed full body handling, remained still and tolerant with a loose body and low tail wagging, gave gentle kisses on my hands. Waited patiently for treats, did not jump on me at all to solicit attention or to get more treats, seems to have a great energy level and disposition for a home with small children Due to his playgroup interactions He should not go to a dog park, and instead should play one on one with dogs with supervision. While walking outside, we saw a small and large dogs, he would look and quickly disengage on his own to interact with me or the environment. His features were soft and loose when looking at the other dogs. Gold Per volunteer 05/31/2025: It was a pleasure taking Jax out for a walk. He was easy to leash and walked through the kennels with a loose body. Once outside, he relieved himself right away. Since it was raining, we went into the yard with a gazebo to stay dry. He was quite wiggly and likes to jump up for hugs but was easily redirected. He is very treat-motivated and loves them, even sitting and spinning for them after getting his initial energy out. He is also very attentive. He cuddled up next to me on the seat to stay dry and is a very sweet guy. He even gave me a few kisses. There were no issues returning him to his kennel. 05/31/2025 Per staff that brought Jax to playgroup 5/31: 0 issues across the board (leashing, walking thru kennel, no problematic shyness, jumpiness, mouthiness). Medium energy. 05/31/2025 Playgroup 5/31: [Following was not captured on video.] Replaced Brown Crown as the solo dog in yard. Was neutral, loose, relaxed toward handlers. Curious toward Brian and Dior at the fence/gate (alert, ears up, sniffing, placing front paws up on fence, mid wags). When Brian entered the yard, rushed toward him, and jumped onto him, Jax overcorrected and persisted baring teeth and snarling at Brian despite Brian's attempts to evade/defend/retreat. The fight was broken up with an air horn. Jax remained solo in the yard to decompress for a few minutes before being returned to kennel. 05/30/2025 Per staff that brought Jax to playgroup 5/30: 0 issues across the board (leashing, walking thru kennel, no problematic shyness, jumpiness, mouthiness). Medium energy. 05/30/2025 Playgroup 5/30: Steerable with spray bottle, not with shake can. At gate, neutral and relaxed, mid-high wags, interested in the other dogs. In yard, remained relaxed, sociable, tolerant, and enjoyed socializing with Goldie Lox. Easygoing, chill. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
