My story

WENDY: Wendy is a sweet on her terms, and would sit with her previous owner when she was comfortable. She loves wand toys! She was treated for an ear infection prior to her arrival to the shelter. She may have food or environmental allergies, immune suppression, or another underlying cause or conformation that predisposes her to infection. Ear infections are often recurring issues. We recommend following up with a primary veterinarian should the infection recur. Wendy has a fractured (broken) upper left canine tooth. A sedated oral exam and dental radiographs are needed to determine if removal of the tooth is needed. Follow up with a primary care veterinarian is recommended to discuss dental health and treatment. She also has evidence of dental tartar or gingivitis and may benefit from dental cleaning in the future. Follow up with a primary care veterinarian is recommended for ongoing dental health recommendations. She may put herself in situations in which she cannot regulate her own overstimulation, which may look like getting close and asking for pets by intensely/furiously weaving through your legs, rubbing against hands, trying to put their face in your face, etc., and then quickly swatting, hissing, or using her mouth. She may also correctively overstimulate, which might look like moving away or using her body language to communicate that she needs a break from interacting. It will be the job of her adopter to recognize those changes in behavior or body language, and respond by giving her some space, or leaving her with an activity she can engage with on her own like a puzzle feeder or a new toy. The shelter offers suggestions that will be addressed with potential adopters, such as consent tests, play `therapy`, rewards for calm behavior, and clicker training. It is suggested that her adopter work with a fear-free veterinarian for future care as she has struggled with close handling for vet care.
