My story

Meet Girlie, a 4.5-year-old, 62-pound sweetheart with a heart as big as her paws. She starts off strong—literally—when coming out of her kennel, full of excitement and ready to go. But don’t let that initial burst fool you; once she gets a few minutes to shake off the zoomies, she settles into a calm, enjoyable walking companion. Girlie isn’t quite sure about jumping into cars on her own yet, but she handles rides like a pro once she's in—relaxed, quiet, and easygoing. At a recent Sniffspot outing, she surprised us by being more mellow than expected. She did some playful running, a little fetch (about three solid throws), and plenty of sniffing, but mostly she enjoyed strolling and soaking in the scenery. She likes to be near her people, soaking up gentle pets and affection, but she’s also happy to explore on her own. Girlie takes treats with impressive gentleness and, while she may not know her commands just yet, she makes up for it with charm and an adorably clumsy spirit. Once that initial excitement wears off, Girlie is incredibly well-behaved and easy to be around. She’s the perfect mix of independent explorer and laid-back cuddle buddy, and she's ready to find a home that’ll love her for exactly who she is. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
