My story

Meet Mochi, an adorable, Maine Coon kitten with expressive eyes and gentle demeanor. At six months old, this girl has only begun to grow. Did you know that Maine Coons aren't fully developed until three years of age? This means her mane is only going to fill out and that tail? It's going to be a majestic plume that will be held upright as she struts through this life! Mochi is curious, sweet and highly-social. She was recently returned from her adoptive family because she wasn't getting along with their resident, male cat (who's also FeLV+). For this reason, she may do best in a home where she's the only cat and can get lots of attention... perhaps from someone who works from home or a retired couple. She'll also need an adopter who understands how important it will be to keep her coat brushed - to avoid knotting. The reason why we're listing Mochi as "special needs" is on account of her testing positive for FeLV. There used to be such a stigma with an FeLV+ diagnosis but we've learned so much since those days. In fact, there are countless cases of positive and negative cats living together for their entire lives - without the others contracting it. It may mean that Mochi should live with only another FeLV+ cat(s) or with a dog (since it doesn't cross species). She was rescued from the mean streets and we suspect someone abandoned her after moving away. You'll find her rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #35 on our Facebook page: Save The Leadwell Kitties. That's where we document ALL our rescued cats and kittens - including updates from fosters and adopters. Mochi's adoption will include her: * Spay surgery, * De-worming, * Flea and mite treatment (with Revolution), * FVRCP vaccinations, * Rabies vaccination (if old enough), * Combo-test (for FIV/FeLV = negative), * and Microchipping! ~ $150. adoption fee, adoption contract and home check apply / $250 for a pair ~ * Please only contact us if you'll be making Mochi a permanent member of your household and will be keeping her safe indoors. ** We do not adopt out kittens or cats where they will be the only pet at home. Kittens rely on each other for emotional support and continued social and behavioral development. For example: another kitten or cat will teach them when they're playing too rough or biting too hard. Plus, cats and kittens get very lonely when you're not at home! Having a playmate will keep them happier, healthier and out of trouble. **We offer a discount when adopting a pair! *** You can also find all our adoptables on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" (including their rescue story, photos and video updates). Interested in becoming a much-needed foster? Please send us a message with your best contact info, the type of home environment you can provide and, most-importantly, the City in which you live. Thanks!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mochi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
