Xanadu is a stunning 2-year-old grey terrier mix with a heart of gold and a gentle, easygoing spirit. Her foster family says she’s been an absolute joy to have around! Xanadu is calm, friendly, and curious about the world—she loves going for walks in the woods, snoozing on the couch, and showering her people with kisses. She’s great on a leash, only pulling a little when she sees something exciting like a squirrel or another dog, and she’s not fazed by loud noises or the TV. She’s crate trained and will settle in for a nap as long as you’re nearby, though she does get a little anxious if left alone in the crate. When left alone outside of the crate, she’s been a perfect angel—no destruction or mischief, just a sweet girl waiting for her people to come home. Xanadu is potty trained, knows how to sit, and is working on other training cues like “paw” and “stay.” She’s still figuring out which things are toys, but she’s not intentionally destructive at all. This outgoing and affectionate girl is always wagging her tail and has started to show more of her goofy, playful side as she settles in. She’s the perfect mix of snuggly and independent, and she’d love to find a home where she can be close to her people and continue blossoming. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a calm nature and a whole lot of love to give, Xanadu might just be your perfect match! When Xanadu arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Oklahoma, she tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for Heartworm-positive dogs like Xanadu to recover is with a loving and forever family. If you choose to adopt Xanadu, the clinic staff will be there every step of the way, answering questions and offering support. The treatment process typically takes about three months and involves some simple at-home steps to keep her safe while she recovers. The final step is a follow-up test six months after the treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful, and the staff anticipates that Xanadu will make a full recovery! It’s also important to know that Heartworm is only transmitted by mosquitoes and cannot be spread directly from animal to animal. With the right care and lots of love, Xanadu will be back to living her best life in no time! Stop in and meet Xanadu in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (6 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Xanadu, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
