My story

How this pet arrived: This pet was brought in by a community member into care May of 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Spackle is a gentle soul learning how to feel safe in the world. Sensitive and cautious by nature, he's working hard every day to trust the humans around him. When you go slow and offer treats and kindness, he'll begin to show you his true self-curious, affectionate, and even a little goofy.Spackle has a history of fearfulness around new people and environments. You might see him tremble, freeze, or give small growls when he's unsure-but with patience and respect for his pace, he warms up and starts to lean into comfort. Once Spackle begins to trust you, he enjoys treats, will gently lick your nose, and has even started to engage in play. His body softens, his tail starts to sway, and those guarded eyes begin to brighten.He needs a calm, consistent environment with older, respectful children only, and would benefit from a quiet home where his people understand dog body language, consent-based handling, and how to manage fear with compassion. Spackle has no history with cats or dogs, so introductions should be made thoughtfully and under professional guidance.A behavior consult with our training team is required before adoption so we can walk you through Spackle's progress, support needs, and how to set him up for success. His adopter should be ready for slow acclimation, frequent consent checks, and an understanding that trust is something Spackle gives gradually-but once earned, it's deeply rewarding.Spackle's journey won't be fast, but it will be meaningful.
