First things first, can we talk about how incredibly HANDSOME this guy is?! From the moment I first laid eyes on him, I immediately noticed his velvety and soft chocolate coat complemented by the most beautiful golden honey eyes. It’s as if he were specially curated in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory—but instead of getting a scrumptious chocolate bar, you're getting Big Boy. An affectionate, super smart, athletic, dog friendly, kid friendly, cheez it lover, booty scratching enthusiast furry best friend. Watch his video and fall in love with Big boy: https://youtu.be/dvPyv3dUG1U?si=rD_JIlAE8sbwVHZW Big Boy is a lab/pittie mix approximately 5 years old that currently weighs 75 lbs and he has the best confetti sprinkled grey hair throughout his muzzle. We do believe that he will gain a few extra love pounds once in his forever home and we expect him to gain at least 5-10lbs give or take. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it's always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. Big Boy is dog friendly and loves to play with other dogs. He loves to play chase, engage in those rumble and tumble moments, and is the life of the party. Although Big Boy likes to have fun and loves to play, he also enjoys those calmer moments as well and doing his own thing exploring all the smells in the yard. Big Boy is a happy and confident playful fella and will do best in a home a lady friend that also matches his vibe. A confident happy female dog that likes to play, enjoys romping around the yard playing chase, likes to engage in those rumble and tumble wrestling matches, and also appreciates those calmer hangout moments as well. If you don’t have other dogs, that’s fine too! Big Boy does not need the company of other dogs to help him feel comfortable or to open up. He is a confident happy fella a on his own and in regards to fulfilling his energy requirements, a training session in the backyard, walk/jog around the neighborhood, or some form of mental stimulation will be all that Big Boy needs. Big Boy is a more than just his striking good looks, he has the brains to match! Guys, it’s absolutely incredible how smart Big Boy is and how well trained he is already. He’s also e-collared trained too which is just another impressive thing about him. He knows sit so well that all you have to do is say the word and he will immediately sit. Even if you don't have a treat or anything to give him as a reward, he will still immediately sit for you the second that you ask him to which is so impressive. He walks well on a leash and hardly ever pulls. He will pull out of excitement here and there or if he wants to go sniff something but the moment that you give him a leash correction or verbal correction, he looks up at you and then is essentially walking at a heel right by your side. He is also knows the down and stay commands as well and responds to those in the same manner that he does with the “sit” command, it’s immediate. Big Boy thrives with structure, loves to learn new things, and is treat motivated too. If you're someone that likes to teach their dog fun and cool new tricks, have experience with E-collar training, wanting a dog that you can do agility work with, and ultimately looking for an already highly trained dog, Big Boy is definitely your guy! Big boy has a great sense of adventure and would do best with a semi-active family! He would love to go explore those hiking trails you have pinned on the map, join you for a day trip to the beach, or even going on a camping trip. We see him being such a great adventure buddy that you could almost take anywhere. He would also be just as happy going for a walk in the park or playing a game of fetch in the backyard if you're not feeling up for an adventure that day. Big Boy would thrive in a home with his own backyard where he can romp around, stretch his legs, play with toys, and soak in the sun, rather than an apartment. Big boy would also do great with a family that has kids. He has been around kids ages 4,5, and 12 has done great with them all. He is comfortable around kids running around, jumping, screaming, and leaning on him for affection and long as he can sneak in a kiss or two. He loved being around Elijah especially when he started scratching his booty LOL. Once that started, it was game over and Big Boy was already flopping over on the floor sticking his booty up in the air as high as he could. You know, to make sure all the angles were being met. Big Boy can knock down a tiny human by accident every now and then when he gets excited. That is something that can easily be worked on with training since we already know how trainable he is, he'll be able to pick up proper manners around tiny humans quickly. As far as comfortability goes though, Big Boy is great around kids and has the potential of being an amazing companion to a family with kids! We are willing to test Big Boy with anything you need us to in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
