At first, he may retreat to the shadows like a ghost in an old Concord farmhouse-but give him time, and he'll emerge like morning light through lace curtains, gentle and warm. He is a lap cat of the highest order, wholly devoted to the art of being brushed and adored. There's something deeply comforting about the way he settles into your knees, as though he's always belonged there, like an heirloom quilt or a well-worn volume of Whittier by the fire. He's shared quarters with a small dog quite peaceably, but reptiles-well, dear reader, Mystery does not hold with them. He cannot be trusted around terrariums, for he regards them as challenges to be bested, not habitats to be respected. Should you be lucky enough to offer him passage to your home, do bring a sturdy carrier.
