My story

Hi! My name is Joshua Tree, and I am from Minnesota! From his foster: Looking for a high-energy buddy who loves to run, hike, and (probably) skijor? Meet JT, a 1-year-old Husky mix with a calm, confident vibe and a big heart. House-trained, respectful, and affectionate, he’s thrilled to cuddle once you’re done exploring the outdoors. JT has already mastered major commands and adores going to obedience class. He’s smart, food-motivated, and quick to learn everything. JT is a social guy who loves all people and dogs, though he’s best paired with dogs that can match his intense play style. Like many Huskies, he has a strong prey drive and tends to pull on leash, though he’s improving on that every day. He’s also working through separation anxiety, so he’s looking for a patient human who enjoys training as much as he does. If you’re active, outdoorsy, and ready for a happy-go-lucky sidekick, JT might just be your perfect match! While JT’s positive traits far outweigh the challenges, there are 2 important areas potential adopters should be aware of: 1. Leash Manners & Prey Drive: JT pulls hard on leash when he sees squirrels, rabbits, or other dog friends. While he's not aggressive, his high prey drive and desire to greet/play with other dogs make walks a bit of a workout. Adopters should be committed to ongoing leash training to polish up his walking skills. JT is highly food- and praise-motivated and is very responsive to training. 2. Crate Training & Separation Anxiety: JT is still early in his crate training journey. He enjoys resting and eating in his crate, but is vocal and distressed when confined and left alone. His foster mom is actively working to make sure his comfort level in a crate progresses. However, at this time, he is not suited for a home with shared walls due to his vocalization. (This may change with time and training.) What Kind of Home Would Be a Good Fit for JT? Exercise Needs: JT has a pretty high energy level. With regular, ample physical and mental exercise, he is calm and mellow at home. His foster mom has seen that he gets hyper/agitated when not properly exercised. He'd fit in great with an adoptive family who is physically active on a daily basis. Training Commitment: A home committed to continuing both leash and crate training. JT wants to learn—he just needs the guidance. Dog Companionship (optional but ideal): JT doesn’t require another dog in the home, but he LOVES playing with other dogs and would thrive with a well-matched, energetic canine friend. If he’s an only dog, he would benefit from regular off-leash play (dog parks, daycare, or neighborhood playgroups, etc). Cats: JT has not lived with cats, but he has had a great cat test! He may try to play with them, especially when he gets one of his bursts of energy, so a dog-savvy cat would be best. Kids: JT hasn’t lived with kids but would likely do well with older, dog-savvy children. He’s very tolerant of touch and not bothered by noise or activity. We wouldn’t recommend him for homes with young kids, as he still exhibits some light mouthing and jumping that needs refinement. JT is a pretty great dog— he's friendly, respectful, affectionate, social, and eager to please. He doesn’t resource guard, gets along with all people and dogs, and has zero aggression. He is completely unbothered by fireworks, loud noises, thunder, traffic, the mailman, touching his paws/ears... basically anything. He is a pretty cool cucumber. He's pretty quiet in the home outside of the occasional "husky sass", and will likely calm down in his crate with additional training and exposure. He just needs support to learn training basics. With a little time and training, JT will shine as a loyal companion and adventure buddy.
