Once on land he was not problem potty training him but at first you would have to get him on a schedule. Max was adopted and returned after just 2 days through not fault of his. Max is active and if you want someone to be a couch potato then Max would not be a good fit for your home. He loves to be with you, follow you or have you throw his favorite toy. He'll also play with other young smaller dogs. Cats would be a no-no. Children 9 and up only because if he jumped on them he could not them down, only in his excitement to meet new friends.  He is highly food motivated so he would need to be fed separately because he'll wolf his food down and want the others. We are sending him with a slow bowl to help to slow him down but he can still eat pretty fast.  Max doesn't like his nails trimmed very well so a muzzle would be best when it needed to be done.  BUT if you are looking for a happy, very friendly boy whose up for anything then Max is your man!     Our must-haves for fun-loving Max include: A fenced yard is a must Another smaller young dog for him to play with as he does love to play with other dogs and toys NO big dogs Someone who can be home some with him or work from home The adopter must be active; no couch potatoes need apply No apartments, high-rises, or condos If you meet these requirements and want to add to your pack, then now is the time to apply for Max ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your 'new friend' get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
