My story

Meet Sandy, the cutest little yellow lab girl you will ever meet!  Sandy began her life on a breeding farm, but never had any litters of puppies herself and was surrendered to Brookline.  She has been in a foster home for two months learning all about life as a house pet and has become a fantastic companion.  Aside from her high levels of adorableness, Sandy’s stand-out feature is her small size (which, let’s face it, contributes to that adorableness!).  She is on the very small side for a labrador retriever at 55 pounds and will probably be mistaken for an 8-month-old puppy for the rest of her days.  Anyone who has ever wanted a perma-puppy would be very happy with this tiny girl. At two years old, Sandy is filled with energy and playfulness.  She loves to play with toys and tennis balls and her happiest activity is running around outside burning off all that extra excitement.  A home with a fenced yard will be perfect for her but without a fence a plan to take her to a dog park every day for exercise would work. She learned her house training quickly and with some additional obedience training to address a few things (like excessive alert barking and over-eagerness to get to other dogs while on the leash), will surely be a wonderful and easy to care for dog. Sandy has been a good girl when left in the house without her people for up to 4 hours, always with the company of another dog.  She learned to sleep in her crate when she first came into foster care but now enjoys free roam of the house. Sandy is still afraid to jump into the car and to climb up full flights on stairs (she handles short flights in and out of the house easily).  When she encounters these things she pancakes and lies flat on the ground, requiring someone to lift her.  With this in mind, until she can be trained to manage these things confidently, her new owner will need to be physically able to lift and carry a squirmy 55 pounds. She is great with men and women as well as kids.  Cats are a challenge as she has enough prey drive to chase them.  A confident cat used to dogs who can teach Sandy how to behave is probably fine for her, but a home with a fearful cat would not work (and be unfair to that poor cat). Sandy is very social so a home with another dog would be great for her.  If she’s an only-dog, a plan to have play dates with other dogs would be needed so she can express her playful side and continue her socialization. In general, Sandy is a pleasure to be around and fills the house with laughs and smiles!  She is going to be a fabulous friend for her new family and can’t wait to meet them! PLEASE NOTE:  While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue.  For more information on this Lab, please contact info@brooklinelabrescue.org.   If you are interested in adopting this Lab or any other Lab from our Rescue, please visit our Web site, brooklinelabrescue.org, for more information on our adoption process.
