My story

Thelma is the perfect mix of gentle soul and playful spirit. This 60-pound sweetheart was shy and unsure of her new surroundings when she first arrived—but with a little time, patience, and love, Thelma has truly blossomed. Now, she lives for her walks. Sometimes she gets so excited to explore that she pulls ahead a bit, but she quickly settles into a nice rhythm, sniffing along the trails and occasionally checking in with her person. She’s also calm and composed when passing other dogs on walks. Thelma is a smart cookie. She knows “sit” like a pro and is motivated by treats—making future training a breeze. When you sit on a bench, Thelma comes right to you, so happy to put her head into your lap and loving the pets and affection. Add to all of that a seriously adorable face, and you’ve got a pup who’s impossible not to love.Thelma recently got a well-deserved break from shelter life and spent the day hiking with a volunteer—and she absolutely loved every second of it! A star passenger in the car, she was calm and content on the way to the park, ready for a dose of Nature Therapy. She proved to be a fantastic hiking companion, especially when splashing in the water. After her adventure, Thelma enjoyed a treat stop for a burger and ice cream. The burger was a maybe, but the ice cream? 100% Thelma-approved.Her Dog’s Day Out didn’t stop there. Thelma also visited the Guinness Brewery, explored Petco, and made a pit stop at the volunteer’s home. She loved playing with toys and being a sweet little shadow, following her humans around and soaking up their company. She truly shines in the car, on the trails, and in a home setting. Volunteers noted that Thelma can be shy at first, but she does warm up with gentle encouragement and a little time. Once she feels comfortable, her affectionate and curious personality shines through!Thelma had a wonderful time on her sleepover with a volunteer and showed what a bright, affectionate, and playful companion she truly is! This smart and spirited girl loves her walks and is curious about everything. Thelma was non-reactive to other dogs—whether passing them on walks or seeing them through the glass door—and even stayed calm when she encountered a deer! She’s confident but composed, making her a great match for many home environments. Thelma would thrive with an active family that enjoys outdoor adventures and daily strolls.Inside, Thelma was just as happy. She explored the home, entertained h
