My story

When we first met Ennis, he was barely more than a skeleton draped in a bluetick coat. He stood quietly in a filthy outdoor kennel, surrounded by his own waste, the stench of neglect clinging to his frail body. His water was murky and green. His food bowl was empty — and had been for far too long. No dog should live like this. No soul should be forgotten this way. Ennis had given up on being seen. His eyes didn’t plead; they accepted. Accepted the hunger, the cold nights, the silence. He had survived by retreating inward, one day at a time, in the hope that maybe—maybe—someone might one day notice him. And finally… someone did. He was rescued from the shadows of his suffering and brought into the care of the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society. That was the day Ennis’ life changed. He is no longer just "the dog in the cage." He is Ennis — the gentle, soulful bluetick coonhound who deserves warmth, full bowls, and soft beds. Every day, his spark grows stronger. He wags his tail a little more. He leans into gentle hands. He’s learning, slowly, what kindness feels like. Ennis is on his road to healing, but his journey is far from over. What he needs now is someone to love him as much as he deserved to be loved all along. A safe home, a full heart, and a second chance at the life he should’ve had from the start. Because Ennis was never broken — he was just waiting to be rescued. 🧡 Can you give Ennis the love he’s waited his whole life for? 📍 Visit us at 2101 W.
