My story

Ashton is a gentle, affectionate little 6 month old poodle with a heart full of love. He’s calm, sweet-natured, and loves being near his people, whether it’s curling up on a soft bed or quietly following you around the house. He can be a bit shy at first, but with time and kindness, his personality continues to shine through. Ashton came to us after a rough beginning. For about three months, he lived outside next to an apartment, where he was dirty, neglected, and left to fend for himself. His food was just kibble tossed on the ground, and his coat was matted with debris and even tar. A hospice nurse found Ashton while visiting a patient, whose daughter had been keeping him locked outside. After some convincing, she agreed to bring him to Shelter Hope. Since then, he’s had several baths, lots of TLC, and all the medical care he needed. He is now neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Now that he’s safe and cared for in a loving foster home, Ashton is truly beginning to shine. He was timid and unsure at first, especially around new noises and environments, but he’s adjusting beautifully and growing more confident every day. He’s affectionate and sweet, and his foster family has loved having him in their home. They’ve been so happy to see him relax, open up, and even start showing playful curiosity. He’s learning to walk on a leash, sleeps quietly in his crate, and is a peaceful little passenger during car rides. During the day, he’s calm and content, enjoys his toys, and is settling in well to his new routine. He also seems more confident and at ease when other dogs are around. Ashton is ready to leave his past behind and find a forever family who will cherish him the way he deserves. Ashton will do best in a calm, patient home that can offer him the space, understanding, and time he needs to fully come out of his shell.
