My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $700 Meet Ramekin! 5–6 months old | 28 lbs | Wheaten Terrier mix | Future Best Friend   Ramekin was once labeled “too shy” and nearly lost his chance at life in a crowded shelter. But look at him now! This shaggy sweetheart is living his second chance to the fullest—brimming with puppy playfulness, curiosity, and an ever-growing confidence.   A Day in the Life of Ramekin Ramekin starts his day with a morning stretch around 7 AM and a potty break or walk (he especially loves a good romp on the beach!). Breakfast is served at 8, followed by some playtime or a nap—depending on how hard he’s wrestled with his doggy foster sibling, a 55-lb Goldendoodle he adores. Throughout the day, Ramekin cycles between toy time, naps, and playing tag with his canine buddy while his foster parent works from home. Dinner’s at 6 PM, and bedtime snuggles happen in his cozy dog bed near the humans around 10 PM.   His Personality Once reserved, Ramekin has blossomed into a goofy, affectionate, velcro pup who loves to be close to his people. He’ll climb in your lap when he needs a break from play or if you’ve been out of sight too long. Don’t even think about closing the bathroom door without him—he’ll be waiting (and maybe whining) just outside. Ramekin’s a Grade-A snuggler and always game for love and attention.   Social Butterfly in Training Ramekin LOVES other dogs. He plays beautifully with dogs of all sizes—chasing, wrestling, tug-of-warring, you name it. He’s respectful with reactive pups and adapts quickly to new doggy friends. While he hasn’t met cats or kids up close yet, he’s shown curiosity and friendliness from a distance.   Playful Pup Energy This guy’s still got that classic puppy zest. He’s playful, a little mischievous (don’t leave your shoes or books unattended!), and very into toys—especially things he can chew. He might still be teething and does give the occasional puppy nibble, but he responds well to gentle corrections. Outdoorsy types, rejoice: Ramekin loves walks, beach time, and would be a fantastic hiking buddy one day.   Walks + Training Ramekin is learning the ropes of leash life. He’s still figuring out poles and tangled legs, and sometimes he carries the leash in his mouth like he’s walking you. But he rarely barks, doesn’t react negatively to other dogs, and has already come a long way with confidence walking across busy streets. He knows “sit,” has some recall, and is food-motivated— an ideal student with the right teacher.   House Manners (Getting There!) Housetraining is a work in progress. Ramekin does great with pooping outside but still has accidents with peeing indoors. He’s not crate trained and hasn’t tried doggy doors or pads, but he’s tolerant of belly bands and improving with consistency, praise, and a good ol’ “go potty” command.   Why Ramekin? Ramekin is the full package: sweet, snuggly, silly, and so, so special. He’s the kind of pup who watches dog grooming videos on YouTube and gets captivated by Planet Earth. He once barked at his own reflection in the window, then fell asleep like nothing happened. This little goofball has a big heart and is blossoming by the day.   Whether you’re a single dog-lover, a couple with an adventure streak, or a family looking to add some joy and fluff to your life, Ramekin is ready to be your new favorite sidekick.   Adopt Ramekin. Because sometimes the shyest dogs turn into the very best companions.June 15, 2025, 10:43 am
