My story
From MAS Staff member 6/13: The first time I approached Petey, he was clearly unsure and overwhelmed—frozen in place and too scared to walk on leash. Instead of pushing him, I decided to just sit quietly with him, giving him the time and space he needed to feel safe. Slowly but surely, Petey began to relax. His body softened, his eyes grew more trusting, and after a little while, I gently tried again to take him for a walk. This time, he stood up and followed me. Once we were outside, it was like a switch flipped—he walked beautifully on leash and showed a completely different side of himself: affectionate, gentle, and full of potential. It was a touching reminder that sometimes, all a dog needs is a little patience and kindness to show who they really are.
