Meet Snowy. This beautiful girl is a Siamese Cross, about 3 years old now. Snowy came to us from a rural property where she had a few litters of kittens before the property owners reached out for help. She is the sweetest girl. She loves to be picked up and carried and wants to be where you are. Snowy is good with the dogs in her foster home and good with other cats. She is a gentle soul that would be good with children providing they are old enough to know not to let her out the door. Snowy is FIV positive. FIV is a feline only virus that cannot be transmitted to people or other animal species. FIV is NOT passed between cats through casual contact like sharing food bowls or litter boxes or through playing, wrestling or licking/cleaning each other. FIV is passed between cats through a deep bite wound – deep enough to inject saliva into the bloodstream of the other cat – commonly occurring in unfixed outdoor cats who fight for territory. Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine conducted a long-term study in cat shelters and found that FIV-positive cats can live with FIV-negative cats and not infect the FIV-negative cats during normal day-to-day interaction. Studies over the last 10 years have also shown that cats with FIV often live as long as otherwise healthy cats that do not have this virus.
