My story

Our antique chihuahua Roberta is seeking a hospice placement to live out whatever quality time she has left… another of the 9 local dogs rescued this week in partnership with Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge This little old lady was “found” abandoned at the time when she needed her trusted people the most. She was very scared and defensive but calms down once held, loves and seeks out the biggest fuzziest soft beds to nap in, and really really loves her meals. She must have been quite the tiny terror in her prime, and still has enough teeth left to defend her food and tell the vet to f-off. We suspect she is in her mid to late teens with a host of old lady ailments-mostly blind, arthritis, kidney disease, multiple mammary tumors- but still enjoys short strolls around the yard in between deciding which bed is best for her next nap. With her advanced age and multiple issues we don’t anesthesia is in her best interest at this point and she’s looking to live her best end of life out in a quiet home. Other tiny gentle dogs are fine as long as she can have her meals served separately. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
