After waiting for too long in an Ontario shelter, Iris has moved into a foster home in rescue and is ready to find her forever home! Iris was found stray, but is an estimated 2yo female bully breed mix, about 50lbs. Iris is a sensitive, silly and snuggly girl looking for a quiet but active home to call her own! She loves snuggling with her foster parents on the couch, or napping quietly by their feet while working from home. Iris has the best snuggles because she’s soft as a baby deer! She can be a bit wiggly at first while she is finding the perfect spot, then loves to nest in the blankets and give little kisses to her people! Iris is also a young dog and still has quite a bit of energy to burn! She loves zoomies in her backyard (sometimes in the kitchen too!), loves ripping apart and shaking her stuffed toys, and loves chasing her balls! She also really enjoys sniffing, and would love some sniffari walks in her forever home. Iris can be a bit insecure on walks, and is hypervigilant of everything. She notices all other animals, but disengages nicely. She has spooked at quiet cars coming up on her, and is nervous of fast-passing cars, especially on rainy days when they’re a bit louder. Her leash skills aren’t terrible, but she can pull a bit, especially in the first 10 minutes of the walk. She is currently working on being calm and focusing on her people more, and would benefit from a forever home who will continue the work her foster home is putting in. Iris is also hypervigilant in the house, and is easily overstimulated by any noises outside, or the sound of kids playing and little feet stomping. She would do best in a detached home where she won’t be alerted by the neighbours, and a home with no kids so she can relax at home. She will definitely alert her people with barking if she hears any voices outside the house, or any sly raccoons investigating the garbage outside! Iris can be initially nervous around other dogs, but would likely do well with a respectful and easy-going canine companion after a proper introduction. She is a bully breed mix and comes in hot, and has an intense play style, so not all other dogs will jive with her – she would not be comfortable in a dog park. Iris currently lives with a senior bull terrier who doesn’t love other dogs and they are crated/rotated, however Iris is comfortable calmly co-existing in the same room as her canine foster sister while she naps. She has done well meeting test dogs at the shelter, although she was very high energy and bouncy. Iris can sometimes be nervous meeting new people, but warms up quickly to calm people if she is allowed to approach them (rather than being approached). She is affectionate and likes to jump up, and loves showing off her pretty sits for treats! Iris isn’t a candidate to be a patio pup and wouldn’t enjoy big events, but if she has slow introductions to new people one at a time, she’s happy to go for walks with her friends and hangout in the backyard! Iris is a sensitive girl, so too much change at once can be overwhelming for her. Iris is crate and housetrained. She would prefer her crate be in a quiet area of the house, and doesn’t love her people approaching her crate, or high energy around her crate – she will bark at noises, especially when she can’t go investigate them! She can chew if she is feeling pent up, so a crate is a great tool for her to be safe when she isn’t being supervised. She will also chew up a her lick mat in her crate, or pull a blanket through the bars, so it’s important to be mindful of what is in the crate when it’s time for her to relax. Iris is not destructive with her dog bed, but does try to nest in it, so it’s gotten a bit worn in the middle. Iris is also good in the car – in a van, she likes to be between the driver and the passenger, and if invited may try to snuggle with the passenger! Iris is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and tested negative for tick and mosquito borne illnesses. She is healthy with no known health concerns.
