COME MEET CHELSEA AND OTHER GREAT ADOPTABLE DOGS SUNDAY 6/22 FROM 12PM-3PM AT THE PETSMART IN SILVER SPRING (12020 CHERRY HILL RD, SILVER SPRING, MD)! Want to see more photos and videos of Chelsea?! Follow her foster adventures on Instagram @fetaandherfosterfriends! Name: Chelsea Best Guess for Breed: Retriever type mix Best Guess for Age: 5.5 years as of May 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 38 lbs Gets Along With: Chelsea does well with other dogs! She has done well with the children she has met but we don't know if she has lived with them. She is currently living with a cat and doing well. We are happy to discuss integration techniques with interested adopters. Currently Living at: DC area foster home See this super sweet girl in this video! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AII9St_Y0Sk Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Chelsea would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. About Chelsea, and what she is looking for:Chelsea and her puppies were rescued from the street in Puerto Rico. Her rescuers quickly saw that she is a lovely dog! This is what they told us: 'She is a velcro dog, super loving, quiet, always at your feet at home, loves being a loyal companion. She is nurturing around other dogs, not high energy (she's way out of the puppy yips!). She has lived in foster care for about a month and has been doing very well!' Chelsea is oh so eager to have her forever family. Sniffy walks and exploring her new environment are high on her wish list. But right at the top is having her own family and knowing she is safe and loved for all her days. She promises to give so many adoring gazes and all the love and loyalty in her body. Does this sweet girl get her happily ever after with you? What My Foster Says About Me: Are you looking to adopt an angel in the form of a dog? Then Chelsea is your heaven-sent. She has the most beautiful reddish brown fur with swipes of black all over. She has that sweet shepherdy-looking face with soulful brown eyes. Her tail is big and strong and proud and confidently bops behind her when she walks. She also has that cute little tuft of white fur on her chest, just for good measure. :) She is the most perfect houseguest - she sleeps quietly in her crate (both overnight and when we go out), has not had any accidents, does not chew anything she shoudn't, and loves to lounge around in her poofy dog bed. Sometimes if her own snore wakes her, she will move to a different spot on the floor to stretch out :) She has feigned little interest in toys so far and is a superstar in the car. While she enjoys her food, she is not a snatcher; she VERY gently takes treats and waits patiently if you choose to give her something (she is not a beggar though and will not be all up in your business waiting). All Chelsea really wants is her people. She loves people. People make her smile and wag. She will roll over to give you her belly and very often uses her front paws to pull your arm toward her to signal that she would like pets. Sometimes she will even use her own paw to rub her head to show you that she would like you to pet her. :) She will never turn down pets or belly rubs. As much as she loves people, she does not cry or whine when you leave - she simply sleeps until you return. :) She has done well walking on her leash and doesn't pull; she enjoys taking time to sniff around but will start moving if you prompt her. While she will occasionally show slight interest in my cat, it is more of a passing interest, and then she ignores her the rest of the time. They stood a foot apart from each other yesterday and pretended the other didn't exist :) With good proper intros, I think she would be just fine living with a kitty :) Although I do not have kids, her innate gentleness would probably predispose her doing well in a family with children too. Chelsea is just the most wonderful girl. She has had a tough start to life, but she did such a good job being a mom. And now it's time for her sweet spirit to get all the good things that are coming to her. If you are interested in sharing your life with the sweetest soul, adopting Chelsea is the way to go. Heartworm information: Chelsea is a truly Lucky Dog! She tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
