My story

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please complete an adoption application:  https://form.jotform.com/251336436598163  or email the adoption counselor for more information: lisastern.tr@gmail.com  Dog's Name:  Finnian (FIN0625NCSMD) Estimated Breed:  Maltese/Shih Tzu Approximate Age: 2 years  Approximate Weight:  20 lbs Currently Living at:  Foster Adoption Fee:  $400   DOG'S DESCRIPTION: Poor Finnian was unfortunate to be living with small children who did not treat him well. As a result, while he is a very sweet boy, he will require an experienced adopter who is willing to take the time for him to trust and love. Once he knows and trusts you, you will have a friend for life. Here’s what his foster says about this little handsome man with a cute little underbite:  Finnian is friendly, playful, and cuddly. He's treat motivated, enjoys his daily 1 mile walks and his zoomies in the fenced yard.  He becomes overstimulated with too much handling. For example, sometimes he will bite at hands around his neck when putting on or taking off a harness. Also, he needs regular brushing so I use a lick mat to distract him and when he starts going after the brush, I stop. I think if he learns when he communicates and it's respected and won't be forced then he might start allowing a little more handling. This also happens if he's not given enough freedom. He'll get angry at being guided by the leash, fight it and then the person on the other end. If he can run freely, he's full of joy! He LOVES being pet. He throws himself on me and my family asking for pets. He sleeps at the head of the bed, right by me and doesn't move for 8 hours. Unfortunately, he has separation anxiety so he barks and drools and will get into mischief if left alone. He's less anxious out of the crate. He loves to shred paper or cardboard. Finnian isn't a fam of nylon chews, but loves to carry his plush toys around! He remembers where he leaves them too, often outside, and will go back to find them!. He growls at new people on first sight and needs to be ignored until he's comfortable and approaches them. Women are accepted faster than men. He LOVES kids but their energy can be overstimulating and he thinks they're playmates which can be scary for younger kids. He alerts to all strange sounds outside and will bark. His perfect placement will be a quiet but active home in a suburban or rural setting, not an apartment or condo. Older kids would be ok. Finnian definitely needs a fenced yard! Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (for dogs over 6 months old), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, Hatton Animal Rescue spends significantly more on each dog than the adoption fee.
