NOTE: CHICA IS WITH HER OWNER IN NEWBURY PARK, CA (Southern Calif) WITH HER PERSON. GSRSV HAS NOT MET CHICA. WE ARE LISTING HER ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVE HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO. "Chica" is a 45-lb, 4½-yo spayed female GSD mix who is playful, energetic and protective. She is healthy, current on core vaccinations, and microchipped. Chica is fine with strangers, both inside the house and beyond. She’s friendly but not particulary affectionate; she’ll smell them, then be on her way. She is also fine with young children. Chica is great with other dogs, and small dogs in particular. She likes to chase and wrestle with dogs her equal size and energy. Chica has been a regular dog park visitor since she was a puppy. Chica has never been around cats, so a home without cats is preferred. Chica is housetrained and sleeps inside on or near her person’s (Tom’s) bed. She stays outside when Tom is away from the house, with access to the garage via a dog door, Chica is very well behaved in general, but does get wound up when Tom is leaving and when he returns home. She also exhibits some anxious behaviors when Tom is gone, such as barking, chewing on the fence or jumping up & down. She’ll typically display these behaviors when someone is walking out front with a dog or when she senses something around. Chica has received formal obedience training. She is great on a leash and is non-reactive towards other dogs she sees. Her off-leash recall is good except when she sees a squirrel or other distraction; then, she doesn’t listen so well. Chica enjoys going for car rides and is a very polite passenger. She likes to stick her head out the window at times, but otherwise just lies down on the seat. Chica likes to play fetch in the backyard and act likes she’s running an obstacle course. She likes trying to bounce a Kong ball for dog treats to fall out. Chica enjoys water but is not a full-on swimmer. She prefers running back and forth in water up to her shoulders. She likes to retrieve a tennis ball in water. Chica’s person Tom adopted her when she was four months old, and she has been his sidekick ever since. As attached to Chica as Tom is, he is now having to make the difficult decision to seek a new home for her because Chica bit his roommate (of ten years) when he returned home one day. As mentioned, Chica gets worked up when Tom returns from work. Normally, Tom lets his roommate know when he’s returning so that she can go inside to avoid any incidents with Chica. However, recently there was a missed communication and when Tom came into the backyard with both Chica and his roommate present, Chica bit the roommate. The roommate is now uncomfortable with Chica’s presence and has requested that Tom seek another home for Chica. Chica is located in Newbury Park (Southern California). Her adoption fee is $75. Please contact Tom Musgrove at 805-249-9405 or tomeagle56@verizon.net.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chica, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
