My story

After enduring unimaginable neglect and betrayal, Shelby is finally safe—but what she truly longs for is a forever home filled with love, safety, and kindness. Shelby’s story is heartbreaking. She was surrendered to Kern County Shelter on May 30, 2024, and thought she was getting a second chance when she was taken in by a rescue. But instead of the loving home she deserved, she was trapped in a house of horrors—starved, confined to tiny kennels, and left to suffer in silence. It wasn’t until January 31st that she was finally rescued from that nightmare. Thanks to an incredible team of first responders and volunteers, Shelby’s healing journey has begun. And through it all, she never stopped hoping. Shelby is a joyful, affectionate soul who adores people and lights up around other dogs. She’s full of energy and would thrive in an active home where she can run, play, and be part of the action. She absolutely loves water—she’s always the first to make a splash—and she greets everyone with enthusiastic tail wags and happy little jumps, just overjoyed to be noticed and loved. Once she’s had a chance to burn off her excitement, she settles beautifully and is more than happy to curl up beside you. Shelby has been failed by humans before, but she hasn’t let that break her spirit. She’s resilient, loving, and ready to start the next chapter of her life—with a family who will never let her down again.
