My story

We have a lovely little Bichon in our rescue who is looking for her forever home. Evie is approximately 5-6 years old and weighs 13.5 lbs. Evie was a puppy mill mom. Evie has been spayed and has had a dental. She is being fostered in a home with 3 small dogs. She gets along well with them, and they play and get on well together. Large dogs don’t seem to be an issue either. She doesn’t appear to be interested in playing with toys. Having had 19 teeth pulled, Evie eats mostly soft food – Royal Canin Adult canned food. We add a little chopped chicken and rice. She also eats hard kibble for small dogs.  She loves Benny Bully treats. We generally crate Evie for car rides. She is frightened in the car and will often vomit. A veterinarian can prescribe meds if she needs to travel. Evie will use puppy pads when indoors or go outside. She sleeps in a dog bed in the living room at night. So far, she has not jumped on the couch, but we have no issue if she did. When left alone she has not been destructive. She does bark however mostly joins in when the other dogs are barking but is not the lead barker Puppy mill dogs can have some challenges and patience is key. Evie has not learned how to do stairs or walk on a leash yet. She is nervous when approached and a little tense when handled but has made a lot of progress. She does not bite, and she is fairly good for a groom. She enjoys spending time in the backyard and also likes to hang out of the enclosed front porch if company comes over. Evie would do best in a quiet environment with no small children. Preferably she should go into a home with a retiree or someone who works from home and could be with her often.  She would need a house with fenced yard due to her leash walking challenges.  Practicing in the yard could be a summer project for Evie and her new familyJune 18, 2025, 2:58 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Evie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
