My story

Shakira’s hips don’t lie!! If you’re looking for a confidant pooch who doesn’t need anything but a good meal and a satisfying belly rub to be content, look no further! Shakira has made her entrance into the 3LP crew and is ready for her forever people! We believe Shakira is a lab mix of some sort, who is around 4 years old and weighs approximately 70 pounds. This girl knows how to eat! Due to her being a rescue, age and breed are our best guesses and cannot be guaranteed. But one thing's for sure, rescue is always the best breed! This is great because it gives her the opportunity to get used to what life is like in a home setting when she gets adopted by her forever family! Her foster states that she is around her 5 year old child constantly and they get along great! Shakira’s sweet nature makes her the perfect family dog to have around your littles! Even though she lives in a home currently, she would also be okay in an apartment setting as well. She isn’t the rambunctious type and knows when it’s time to settle down. As far as animal companions go, Shakira would do well in a home with medium energy dogs that appreciate a good chill sesh. When she was out in the yard with some of our dogs, she would hang around the high energy pups, but wouldn’t try to join in once the chasing began. But if they stayed at her pace, she was all in for a good play time! She has a very nurturing personality and all of the dogs felt very comfortable to be beside her. When she met Biggie, our housecat, she was interested and gave a couple of curious sniffs, but she ultimately let him be. She could be in a home with a dog savvy, slower paced feline who does their own thing. Shakira is also a bit of a Miss Independent and could do well in a home where all of the love was showered on her and her alone. Her foster brags about having Shakira in her home stating “My favorite thing about her is that she is a snuggle bug but the second we bring a young dog around she springs back into her youth and plays with them for hours and hours.” How sweet is that? She’s like the best doggy babysitter ever! Shakira is definitely a keeper! Besides her adorable booy rolls, she has the best smile and the cutest floppy ears! Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,120. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that Three Little Pitties Rescue is not government funded. It doesn’t stop there!
