My story

**Courtesy Post** Say hello to Winston from Lee’s Summit near Kansas City! Winston was born 08-20-2020 and he needs a new home. He has the typical Jack Russell Terrier traits such as having high energy, being stubborn, not being social with other dogs and he can be difficult to catch because he’s fast! Some other things about Winston to note are he is very attuned to reading my mood and can tell when a trip to the vet is planned. He doesn't like to be touched, definitely not a cuddler. He's afraid of anything new and barks until he thinks the danger no longer exists. He's an excellent watch dog and lets me know before strangers can ring my doorbell. He seems to like women over men. I attribute that to my wife's nurturing him. He wants to be with his owner and follows me everywhere, looking up at me. He mourned my wife's passing and would watch her bedroom door for hours. He still runs to her door whenever the house makes a noise. He's not a morning dog and will sometimes growl when he wakes. I sometimes wonder if he’s not picking up on my morning mood. Dogs don't generally drink coffee...LOL He will react if disturbed while he's eating. When he runs he sometimes holds his left hind leg up. He's always done that and the vet has never found any problem with his leg. He loves playing "fetch" and will play for hours. He watches me constantly. I'm told that's his way of showing love. He's always been like our child and it breaks my heart to give him up, but his vet feels he could not survive a 15 hour flight in an airline cargo hold. My recommendations for a new home for Winston are he be placed in a home without children or other dogs. I would suggest his new owner be familiar with the breed. He needs lots of exercise on a daily basis. He is afraid of loud noises. Thunderstorms are especially terrifying. I move his bed into my bedroom if storms are expected overnight and he does well with that. He's potty trained and will let you know when he needs to go out. However he sometimes forgets. I leave a pee pad out for his use at night. One very important point I would make is that he never goes outside without a leash. Unlike my former dogs, if he gets out and roams he will be unable to find his way back home. Please remember that. He's stubborn, strong willed and he will steal your heart. Contact: jrhoneycutt59@gmail.com Winston’s new owner must be able to drive to the Kansas City, Missouri area to get him.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Winston in Kansas City, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
