My story

Meet Cocoa Sugar – Sweet, Smart, and Full of Love Cocoa Sugar is a loving, playful, and loyal companion who’s ready to find her next forever home. This sweet girl has been deeply cherished by her family, and it shows—she adores routine, loves to play fetch indoors, and will happily “perform a concert” on her squeaky lamb toy just to make you smile. One of her favorite games? Backing up for belly rubs and ear scratches, then zooming off with a toy in her mouth for a round of playful chase!Cocoa thrives in a calm, structured environment and bonds deeply with her people. She’s food-motivated, enjoys treat-hunting games, and knows exactly when it’s time for dinner or tea—her internal clock is spot-on! She`s a regular at Affectionate Pet Care, where she enjoys social time with other dogs and the staff, who absolutely adore her.Cocoa does have a protective side and can get very vocal and anxious when unfamiliar people visit the home. Her current family has managed this well over the years by giving her quiet space during visits or boarding her at a trusted facility when needed. She also does best with support during thunderstorms or fireworks, preferring to be close to her people in a calm, quiet room. Her ideal home would be one with a predictable routine, lots of love, and understanding adopters who can continue to manage her protectiveness with care and consistency. In return, you’ll get a loyal best friend who will fill your life with affection, laughter, and the occasional squeaky serenade.Cocoa has been a true blessing to her family—and she’s ready to be one for yours. This pet is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff!Be sure to check the “shelter information” box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cocoa Sugar, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
