My story

Hi y'all, I’m Smitty.💙 I might not be the first dog to run up to the kennel door. I don’t bark for attention, and I’m not the flashy, tail-wagging kind. But if you stop, if you kneel down and look a little closer, you’ll see me. And maybe you’ll see something special.I’m a quiet, 3-year-old, medium sized boy at 53 pounds. I've been in this loud, scary place for over 2 weeks, and though everyone is nice to me here, I'm still a little unsure of the world. Loud noises and fast moves still make me flinch. But I’m trying. Every day, I’m learning that some people are kind…that treats are delicious…and that sometimes, if I sit like a good boy (even if it takes me two tries), someone will smile and say “good job, Smitty.” It makes me feel so warm inside when people smile at me and call me good boy.❤️And let me tell you, I live for that.I don’t need much. Just a little patience. A gentle voice. Someone who understands that love doesn’t always come crashing in with zoomies...sometimes, it tiptoes in slowly. Sometimes, it looks like a soft nuzzle, or a quiet tail thump when I know I’m safe.Please don’t walk past me. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Our shelter intakes double or triple it's capacity every month so it is essential we place animals quickly into adoptive homes. Since so many animals enter the shelter we often don't have enough volunteers to write an individual bio for each. Please feel free to call the shelter Wednesday-Sunday to inquire about the animal you are interested in. 706-795-2868.Viewing and adoption hours at our shelter are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM. All adoption fees include age-appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming, and spay or neuter, microchip, and adoption packet. Fees:Dogs over 6 months old: $100Puppies under 6 months: $200.
