My story

Kalayah ACCT-A-223790 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Kalayah must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by FRIDAY, JULY 11TH at 10AM. Should Kalayah’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Kalayah, a sweet girl with a zest for life! Kalayah is a wiggly gal who loves to prance and wag her tail when new friends approach. She's been confused with the kennel life but not letting it hold her back! Kalayah was found as a stray on June 24th and brought out of the heat by police. Since getting to the shelter she has made friends with everyone she can meet! She has had good meets with other dogs, but can get overstimulated which leads to overcorrections. Please bring all members of your household and any resident dogs along to meet her! Due to her length of stay, Kalayah is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. VIDEOS: Meet Kalayah: https://youtu.be/qu7nu5Za548 Kalayah and Nate: https://youtu.be/wMKXwMeZr00 Cuddling with Kalayah: https://youtu.be/K5Gsi7QRBjg Playgroup 7/6: Bryant, Athena, Beethoven, Leah, Kalayah: https://youtu.be/pHc0HitKnY8 Playgroup 7/6: Bryant, Athena, Beethoven, Leah, Kalayah, Posh: https://youtu.be/bG7Fu50rmr0 Playgroup 7/6: Bryant, Athena, Beethoven, Kalayah, Bruce: https://youtu.be/pw_N04kLMRk BEHAVIOR: Per staff 7/6, playgroup: Kalayah was medium energy, push/pull for a few mins and had some good greetings but got overstimulated fairly quickly and began overcorrecting the other dogs for space. Per volunteer 7/2: Kennel Presence: Every time I walked past her kennel, she was prancing back-and-forth, trying to get someone’s attention. When I approached her kennel for leashing, she came right forward and easily allowed me to loop her. Leash: Walks well with minimal pulling. Handling: Really great temperament, she is very affectionate and super wiggly! She met another dog and had loose body language with a mid-level tail. Playfully did bows and jumped up on him and took it right back. Outside in the play yard she was super wiggly but calm. Took pets all over from me! Such a sweetheart. I think she’s overstimulated in the kennel environment, but such a sweet angel outside. Gently drank from the hose and was really just a joy overall. Color: Made her gold but could go down to Green if her behavior continues to be positive Per staff 6/24: Was reactive to both cats and dogs during intake. Seemed very stressed when dog walked in and was reactive when she noticed cat in carrier. Per police 6/24: She’s sweet. MEDICAL: On 6/6, Kalayah was prescribed 7 days of gabapentin due to having happy tail, a condition where a dog injures the tip of their tail due to hitting it on hard objects while wagging. On 6/27, Kalayah was cleared for vaccines. Her left ear was dirty and her teeth had mild tartar and staining. She was also diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled on doxycycline until 7/10. Per staff 6/26: Took out to be checked in and temp was 103.2. Per staff, blood work was collected and ran. Check in pending results - Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kalayah, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
