My story

Cherry is a sweet, 2 years young, mixed breed pup. She's doing really well with her house manners, working on consistently going potty outside, but still has accidents on occasion. She does well in the car so she'd be a great little passenger princess for your summer road trips! Cherry walks well on the leash, she's not a barker, and she's pretty laid back. She also loves the air conditioning like her foster mom and is no fan of the TN summer heat so in the afternoon she likes to go out potty, and get right back into the house. She gets along with all the other dogs in her foster home- large, small, old, young, with varying personalities. She even happily tolerates her spicy little chihuahua friends. She sleeps at night in a gated hallway with pee pads since she is not 100 percent potty trained just yet. Cherry is looking for a wonderful home to love her like she deserves. Cherry came to us from horrible living conditions. She had a pretty serious case of demodex mange (non - contagious) that she has been treated for and her hair is coming in really nicely now. She gets prettier every day! Demodectic mange, frequently referred to as Demodex or "red mange", is the most common form of mange in dogs. Demodectic mange most often occurs in puppies with immature immune systems, allowing the number of skin mites to multiply rapidly. It's not contagious to other dogs or humans, and it is easily treatable but can be a lengthy process. In Cherry's case her immune system was likely poor due to lack of food and living in filth before she was rescued. There are several different medications (oral and topical) that are used to treat Demodex. Medicated baths are helpful and soothing to help the puppy feel less irritated. However, the very best treatment above everything else is low stress and lots of TLC, which she's received in foster care. This sweet pup is ready for a home of her very own but please be sure and do your own research about Demodex to make sure you're comfortable with it. We've treated probably thousands of puppies and adults with Demodex and in the most severe cases, the hair might grow back splotchy in places, but the recovery is full and when treated properly, Demodex leaves no long-term health issues. This dog is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. This dog has tested neg for heartworms. The adoption fee is $450 if your adoption is prepaid and final prior to your dog's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on dogs that are picked up from our Southbury CT adoption center, adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368. WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? Check the Events tab on cprdogs.com for all weekend adoption event info. The majority of the dogs marked as 'meet me' will be there to see you! If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at our Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05. TO APPLY PLEASE GO TO www.cprdogs.com. If your application was successfully submitted you will get a confirmation. Please DO NOT USE the ADOPTAPET "CONTACT THIS RESCUE GROUP" form below or you may not hear from us as these often end up in spam or bouncing back. After receipt of your application, an adoption counselor will then be in touch to answer your questions about this pup, discuss the adoption process and get the ball rolling! If you have not heard from one of our volunteers within 5 days of submitting your application, please email mollibo@gmail.com.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cherry, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
