For Adoption: Donna! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. It's our pleasure to introduce Donna, a 7.5 year old Golden Retriever. She has a gorgeous light golden coat and weighs around 70 pounds. This sweetheart lived a life of breeding until she was rescued by Pound Dog Rescue. Despite her secluded and neglectful upbringing, she is very friendly and seeks out human affection. She is extremely lovely natured and looking for her forever family where she can live a calm and quiet life. Donna adores people and forms quick bonds, greeting everyone with a wag and a serene smile. Her sweet nature and tranquil presence make her the perfect companion for anyone looking for a loyal, loving friend to share in life’s quieter moments. You can usually find her snoozing at your feet, sniffing around the yard or enjoying a nice walk. She is great on a leash and loves to let people stop and say hi to her. She is easily directed, and once you're ready to start up the walk again, she will follow. She gets a few 20-30 minute walks a day currently and her new owners should be able to keep this up. Donna is being fostered with another younger dog and doesn't seem to care about her presence. She is quite indifferent to dogs and does not seek them out but isn't bothered by their presence either. She would do great as the only dog in the household or with another senior dog. Donna is crate trained and goes in her crate at night and when her foster parents leave during the day. She is content in her crate, and will sleep until morning or until your return. She goes into her crate with some verbal encouragement and gestures towards it. She gets super excited to be let out and will do spins and jumps. So gentle reminders to calm down before being let out of her crate are needed! She is also trusted to be left alone not in her crate. Donna is housetrained and does all her business in the backyard. She sometimes has to be woken up from her slumber to go to the bathroom before bed, but again, she's easily directed and follows commands well. Given Donna’s luscious coat, she will need to be regularly brushed or groomed. She does shed, so regular grooming will help with the hair fallout. Although Donna has a yard to sniff around in right now, she doesn't necessarily need a yard of her own. She doesn't spend time in the yard by herself and will follow us back inside once she's had her pee. She does enjoy the outdoors, so she will need someone who can take her on walks or has an outdoor space nearby. Donna has gone in the car a few times, and is a quiet passenger. On a drive over 15 minutes, she will lay down and fall asleep. She will need someone to help her in the car right now as she still doesn't understand the process of getting in it. We use the leash to help guide her to the car but she stops a few feet away from it. At this point is when we lift her in, but at 70 pounds it takes a bit of strength. I can imagine that with more practice she will get used to going up to the car but may always need help lifting her back legs in. Donna has not been cat tested, but does perk her ears up and will pull a tiny bit on walks when she sees a squirrel. Although this doesn't mean she would be aggressive with a cat, if an interested family is looking to adopt her with a cat, we can pursue further testing around a cat to be 100% sure! Donna is not a very playful dog right now, but she absolutely loves to be pet. She does chew on bones occasionally and has been known to rip up a soft toy or two. She also likes to rip up leaves in the backyard. But most of the time, she sleeps peacefully. Donna can still get spooked by sudden noises or movements. She gets walked in a quiet neighborhood but garbage trucks, construction and loud barking will still give her a startle. This is why it is important she is walked on leash and not let off. She will typically just freeze and need some verbal encouragement that everything is ok. Ideally, Donna will be adopted into a home in a quieter or more secluded neighbourhood. She will not be a suitable dog for a busy city center or living on a main road with a lot of traffic noise. Donna would also like a quiet home without a lot of noise or a lot of people coming and going. An adult only home or one with kids over 10yrs who are of a quieter nature would be suitable for her. Sudden noises, commotion and sudden activity startle her so for her well being she needs a calm, relaxing home . In her golden years, this gentle soul still has so much love to give. With a heart as warm as her soft, golden fur, she spends her days peacefully snoozing by your side, quietly reminding you of the joy that comes from unconditional companionship. She’s not asking for much—just a cozy spot to nap, a kind hand to pet her, and someone to love her for the rest of her days. If you're looking for a calm, devoted friend who will bring comfort, sweetness, and quiet joy into your home, this senior girl is waiting for you. #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #rescuedog #adoptdontshop #pounddogs #pdr13years #pounddogrescue13yearsstrong Name: Donna ID # PDR1398 Age: 7.5yrs Gender: female Spayed: yes UTD vaccines: yes Breed: Golden Retriever Colours: cream Coat length: med House trained: yes Special needs: no OK with kids: teens OK with cats: yes Ok with dogs: yes Status: adoptable Microchip: yes Size: large Location: Waterloo Adoption fee: $700
