My story

Approximate Age: 2 years old Approximate Weight: 25 pounds Meet Drake! Here is what his foster has to say about him: - I’m a shy, curious guy looking to make your home my safe space - When I’m happy, my tail goes up like a curly Q! - Great potty manners! - I’m learning to walk on a leash and am on my way to being a walking master - I am low maintenance / low energy, a couple walks around the yard or up your street is all I need for the day - I will take all the treats but I don’t need toys or chews to occupy me - I crate well overnight but would love to keep an eye on you in bed - I also crate well when you leave to run an errand, but will miss you if you are gone for more than a couple hours - I love being brushed, I have a very thick coat and will need grooming / brushing regularly - I am just starting to come out of my shell so I am looking for a person who is patient and willing to allow me to blossom -Drake was rescued from a hoarding situation and is working on socialization - He does not know about toys, and I have yet to get him to play and interact with me in a play way - He has a beautiful thick coat that I am hoping to start brushing over the next couple of days - He has the cutest little face when he’s watching you wondering what you’re doing - He is now eating his meals as soon as you put his bowl down, and getting close to taking treats out of your hand - When moving slowly, he comfortably lets you pick him up There is a really sweet dog hiding under this shell that I am hoping to break through. Mixed mutt! ODHS does not breed label (unless there's official paperwork), as studies show it is nearly impossible to tell the exact breed of each dog based off of their appearance. More "sought out breeds may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees. Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption. We typically have adoption events on Weds 5-7pm, Fri 6-8pm, Sat 11am - 3pm, and Sun 11am - 1pm. Our adoption center is located at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Suite 101, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. It's important that you keep an eye on your emails for any changes or updates during the adoption process. Old Dominion Humane Society is a volunteer based organization. We are run completely by volunteers, who also have full time jobs, so we appreciate your patience. Currently, the average timeframe for a response to your application is 1 week.
