My story

Meet Bojangles: part Great Pyrenees, part oversized toddler who missed the memo about personal space. This lovable dork thinks he's a chihuahua trapped in a 55-pound body, and yes, your lap is his favorite seat in the house—whether you're ready for it or not. He’s got opinions, plenty of them, and he’s not shy about sharing. Whether it's breakfast being two minutes late or the audacity of a squirrel existing in his line of sight, Bojangles will let you know. Yes, your dreams of finally owning a dog that talks to you can finally be realized! Basically, he's the full fluffy package: vocal, clingy, and blissfully unaware that he is, in fact, not a lap dog. Bojangles – a 55lb Great Pyrenees mix with the body of a medium-sized dog and the soul of a dramatic, oversized lap cat. He’s two years old and came to us the way many great stories begin: as an unclaimed treasure left on the side of the road. A kind human found Bojangles as a stray and did all the right things—scanned for a microchip, contacted the owner, probably expected a tearful reunion. Instead, the owner said, “Nah, just take him to a shelter, I don't want him back.” Lucky for Bojangles, they turned to us instead—and lucky for you, he’s now available for adoption. If you're looking for a dog with the soul of a stand-up comic, the heart of a cuddle bug, and absolutely zero regard for personal boundaries, Bojangles is your guy. Bojangles thinks other dogs are the greatest invention since peanut butter. He plays hard, fast, and like personal space is a myth invented by introverts. If there’s a wrestling match happening in the yard, he’s in the middle of it, throwing down with the enthusiasm of a toddler on espresso. Cats? Well, we haven’t introduced him to any officially, but based on his vibe, he’s not giving off “predator” energy. More like “I’d probably try to play with the cat and get slapped for it” energy. So, you know, optimistic but potentially humbling. He’s also got experience with the tiniest of humans—there’s a 1.5-year-old in his foster home, and Bojangles thinks he’s a great sidekick. Sometimes Bojangles forgets that toddlers are basically walking Jell-O with legs, and that an enthusiastic fluffy butt isn’t always the best match for wobbly legs. When it comes to adults, he’s a certified ladies’ man—charming, sweet, the whole package. With men, he might take a minute to warm up, but a few treats and some kind words go a long way. Basically, he’s just out here looking for someone who gets him… and maybe shares snacks. If Bojangles had a spirit animal, it would be a caffeinated kangaroo crossed with a golden retriever on a sugar rush. He’s running at a solid 8 out of 10 on the energy scale, which means if you were hoping for a lowkey couch potato, you’ve taken a very wrong turn, my friend. This boy came with the battery life of a toddler at a birthday party—always ready to play and a total disregard for personal space. On car rides, Bojangles is that passenger—the one who insists on sticking his entire head out the window like he’s starring in a shampoo commercial, occasionally tries to climb into your lap, and gives off the vibe of someone who thinks seatbelts are a suggestion, not a rule(but he definitely needs to be buckled in). He's not dramatic about it—he just has zero concept of personal space and a deep belief that he should always be close enough to fog up your sunglasses with his breath. On leash? Shockingly well-behaved. It’s like someone told him he had to pick one area of his life to be responsible in, and he went with leash manners. He walks like he’s got somewhere to be—probably a hot dog stand—but at least he’s not dragging you there like a sled dog chasing a dream. Off leash though? That’s a different story. He’s not so much “free spirit” as “free to sprint into the next zip code,” leaving you in his dust, wildly flailing and chasing after him in your underwear because of course the escape happened during a casual early morning potty break. Is Bojangles an adventurer or a homebody? Honestly, he’s both. He’s ready to scale a trail with you, ears flapping in the breeze, but also might crash hard mid-party because socializing is exhausting and someone didn't pet him. He’s more into the hiking and exploring part than standing around in a crowd pretending to be polite. As for his general vibe? Imagine a quirky, oversized toddler who has no idea he’s not lap-sized and talks back when you tell him “no.” He’s a total goofball with opinions, volume control set to “maximum drama,” and a deep belief that your lap is his birthright. He’s not just a dog—he’s a whole experience. Favorite activities include: food, playing with other dogs, and following his people around like he’s preparing to write a biography about them. And lastly, fencing. He laughs at your silly chain-link and scales it like a goat with a dream. So if you don’t have a tall wooden fence or the dedication to daily leash walks, you may want to scroll on. But if you're into lovable weirdos with big feelings and even bigger hearts, and have a privacy fence and/or a love for always being outside....we can promise you Bo is going to be your soul dog and keep you laughing for years! Bojangles is, in fact, potty trained—because despite his general goofball energy, he does understand the basic rules of indoor living. Kenneling, however… let’s just say Bojangles views crates the way most people view tax season: unnecessary, stressful, and to be avoided at all costs. So, if you’re hoping for a dog who quietly chills in a crate while you run errands, this is your official warning. Bojangles has opinions about confinement, and they mostly involve jailbreaks. Fortunately, he does just fine with free roam as long as he has his doggie friends around and lots and lots of toys! Bojangles is not what you'd call “soft spoken.” In fact, if you’re looking for peace and quiet, you should probably go ahead and click on literally any other dog. From chatting you up with his deep thoughts to harmonizing with the other dogs in a full-blown backyard bark choir, Bojangles is here to make sure your life is anything but boring. Whether he’s passionately alerting you to a highly suspicious leaf or holding a full conversation with himself in the mirror, he’ll have you laughing until you cry. So, if you’re ready for a life filled with oversized cuddles, constant commentary, and someone who will make you laugh and smile daily, Bojangles is your guy. But don’t just sit there giggling at his antics—fill out that adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app! And fair warning: this lovable dork is currently holding auditions for his forever family in Kiefer, OK, so you’ll need to come to him. He’s not shipping himself—he’s the package you come unwrap.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bojangles, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
