Looking for a running buddy and a loyal best friend? Gunner could your guy. This handsome fella, has a gentle spirit and a love for movement. Recently taken into ACCT Foster Care, we are about to learn a lot more about him. From his time in the shelter we learned that Gunner likes to go for runs. He stays right by their side, keeps an easy pace, and soaked up the sunshine. During a treat break, he happily showed off his “sit” and “lay down.” Calm, well-mannered, and quietly curious, Gunner is learning the ropes of being someone’s very best friend. He’s quiet in his kennel and ready to go once leashed. He can be strong on leash at first due to excitement, but he settles in nicely with activity. He enjoys his time outside, especially when there’s a stuffed squeaky toy involved! Gunner has participated in doggy playgroup and has done great with other dogs. If you're an active household ready to give this sweet guy structure, love, and plenty of fun- reach out to the ACCT foster team – foster@acctphilly.org and schedule a meet! His time in the home has shown that he is as smart as he is handsome! He knows commands including sit, drop it, wait and the most important ‘out of the kitchen’ lol. He is crate trained and does well being allowed to roam freely when his foster mom must go out. He’s quiet and only really barks if someone knocks on the door. Gunner has shown some guarding of his toys and food and would want a home that will manage this with him, so we recommend an experienced home with older kids that will respect his things. When he’s not home he can be found outside meeting and greeting everyone who crosses his path, people and dogs. He loves to make friends everywhere he goes and very well behaved on his walks and in the car. He uses a harness on walks and is working well on loose leash walking with more practice every day. He has gone to public places like pet stores and a large festival where he spent the time making friends and giving kisses to anyone who asked. He has a loose body around other dogs in passing and has the best time having off-leash play dates with his neighbor’s and friends dogs. Gunner is just the life of the party and would love a home that will allow him to have dates with other people and dogs often! Per foster 7/27: He gets tense around his bowl even when you are just passing him by. He is usually fed in the spare bathroom but there was a leak & the dishes had to be moved. He is guarding them until he finishes grazing at the kibble. In couple of instances he got tensed around his toy when my roommate was passing by. I instructed everyone to NOT come Close to him when he is eating or has a toy. We r being careful. I’m the only one that he allows ( reluctantly) to move his things when needed. I worry he is becoming a little possessive/ protective of me. Per foster 7/23: On a scale of 1-5, how is Gunner settling into your home? 4 of 5 What has gone well with your dog so far? Adapting to a routine (e.g., mealtimes, walks), Appearing relaxed in the home environment, Bonding with family members, Eating and drinking regularly, Exploring the house with confidence, Learning basic cues, Sleeping through the night What words best describe your dog's personality? No 07/12/2025 volunteer notes: took Gunner for an ~2 mile run at the cemetary this morning. What a joy he is! This sweet guy, stayed right by my side, ran at an easy pace, was calm and well mannered throughout. We took a break in the grass for some treats and he showed me his knowledge of sit and laydown. An absolute joy to hang with! 07/05/2025 volunteer notes: Gunner was in the welcome center and was very quiet and calm when I approached him to go out. He was easy to leash but is very strong on the leash during the walk. He spent our yard time mostly exit seeking and did not seek out my attention. He did enjoy playing with a stuffed squeaky toy for a brief moment. I think he would be good for the running team! 07/02/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Somewhat steerable, bouncy, good greetings, engaged in play, mounted, rowdy play MEDICAL Intake Exam 6/30/25: Eyes - clear Ears - slight wax Nose - moist, clear Mouth/Teeth/Gums - stained yellow teeth Coat & Skin - clean, no fleas or debris visible Urogenital - male, no scar/tattoo visible, no testicles Gait/Mobility - no lameness Attitude: BAR, sweet dog, great to handle, very loving just shy, food motivated ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
