My story

Whenever a sweet and engaging Spaniel or Collie mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of these breed mixes are very loving, super-smart and devoted family members. While they may very well be initially shy (like so many rescue dogs), once comfortable in their environment, they truly blossom. Tessa will become a devoted family member that shares 100% of her love and loyalty. Once acclimated to her new home, Tessa will fit in seamlessly and make a sweet and loving family companion. Tessa could easily have been euthanized at a dismal Texas shelter due to a lack of space. But her sweet nature, helicopter wagging tail and loving ways endeared her to all who met her. It was just days later that the shelter director contacted Farfel's. She asked that we accept one of the sweetest dogs ever into our rescue. We were thrilled to say yes to Tessa and she was therefore safe and sound. Days later, Tessa was scheduled for her interstate health certificate and her transport to Colorado. We're seeking an individual or family for Tessa that spends lots of time at home and would enjoy this beautiful girl's company. A retired couple or individual will be perfect for Tessa as that age group tends to spend lots of quality time with their dog. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be an excellent choice for this loving best friend. Tessa is too sensitive a pup to be happy alone while her family spends the long hours of full time employment working outside of the home. Often rescue dogs are initially a bit shy, but put them into a home with a loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, love and lots of belly rubs..and they will shine. Tessa is one of these pups. She's a blank slate just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend and the greatest companion ever. Tessa is such a perfect age and size. At just about 2 years old, she's young enough to be a blank slate open to new and wonderful experiences in her life, yet old enough to have left her babyish behaviors behind. Tessa weighs 38 lbs, the perfect size to accompany her family everywhere a sweet and well-behaved medium-sized dog is welcome. Tessa is lucky enough to have inherited the great personality traits of both the Brittany Spaniel and Border Collie breeds. She is so excited and attentive when her people teach her the wonders of her world. If Tessa is trained with a positive reinforcement trainer (Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free / positive reinforcement trainers in your area) and given tons of love, socialization with both humans of all ages and other dogs, she will grow into a self-confident dog who will be an awesome companion out in the world. Tessa has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a puppyish desire to please. We'd like to place Tessa in a home with either active retirees or a younger family who loves spending lots of time with a fuzzy and devoted family member This sweet girl would also enjoy the companionship and fun that a gentle canine friend brings to a family. Farfel's Rescue would like to see Tessa in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force free training class promotes great behavior and builds confidence in a super-smart dog who is learning about her world. These classes are so important in teaching pups their skills and in the bonding process with their family that Farfel's is unwilling to adopt Tessa out to a family that doesn't choose this loving training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in in your area. Tessa will love the trails and neighborhood paths of Colorado. She's the perfect size to enjoy long hikes along trails and neighborhood walks to socialize with neighbors and friends. Window shopping would also be great fun for Tessa to fine-tune her urban skills and provide the socialization that is so important in the development of a dog's relationships. With feelings of security within the family, Tessa will also learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will aways return. Tessa has a gorgeous and cottony-soft coat that is currently shelter-sad. For proper coat care, she will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are perfect protocols to keep Tessa's stunning coat gorgeous and cottony-soft with great health. Tessa will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 7/12/2025. Applications are currently being accepted for this very loving and sweet as can be best friend. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.
