My story

Koko came to ACCT Philly after his previous guardian, who had taken him in from a family member, realized they could not meet his needs. They found it too difficult to care for a medium-energy dog like Koko. Despite their affection for him, they made the tough but loving choice to surrender him so he could find a home better suited to his needs. Koko is a sweetheart with a big heart—literally and figuratively. Described as a hugger who enjoys his walks, he has a gentle nature with people and is fully housebroken and crate trained. During his time at the shelter, Koko has shown himself to be affectionate and eager for attention. He enjoys lap time and pets, and although he can be barky at first, especially around other dogs, he’s made some progress with dog introductions. Koko even did a parallel walk with another dog named Ali and engaged in mutual sniffing without incident. While he remains reactive through barriers and may not be suitable for all-dog settings, his interactions show promise with slow, managed intros. Although he’s not food-motivated, he’s easy to leash, walks well, and is more interested in human companionship than treats. With continued structure and guidance, Koko has the potential to thrive in a dog-savvy home. Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 7/6: Koko - was a little barky at first, but met Alie nicely through the fence and then parallel walked with her. Had some mutual sniffs of each other and also some side by side sniffing. We took them into the large pen, but Alie had been out for a while and seemed really hot, so we took them back. 07/05/2025 per staff: Koko was sitting on his bed with soft eyes. He came up slowly with mid level wags and was easy to leash. He came right out once secured and pulled minimally. He showed no interest in treats and allowed all handling. He sat in my lap for pets and would walk over alert barking and growling (through a barrier) at other dogs. i tried moving him away with treats but he wasn't interested and would come over when called. gold 07/04/2025 per staff: Koko has it written on his kennel card to “be careful, very dog reactive will go after!” Medical Notes 07/06/2025 | Vet Exam Plan: scheduled on 2.5tabs of doxy for 14 days 07/02/2025 | Intake - Medical Weight: 46.6 lbs Body Condition Score: 5 - Ideal Microchip placed: 941000030082229 Eyes - clear Ears - clean Nose - clear Mouth/Teeth/Gums - Teeth white, small amount of tartar Coat & Skin - clean, no fleas or hair loss Urogenital - male intact w/2 Gait/Mobility - no lameness noted Attitude: BAR, friendly Vaccinations (Completed 07/02/2025): Rabies, Bordetella, DHPP (Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Distemper) Preventative: Topical Imidacloprid/Moxidectin applied Currently on doxycycline through 07/19/2025 for upper respiratory signs Awaiting results of Canine Pneumovirus PCR (tested 07/06/2025) ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
