My story

** $505 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Baz ACCT-A-224621 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Baz must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, JULY 27TH at 10AM. Should Baz's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Baz was found as a stray on July 2nd. Though initially nervous in the shelter environment, Baz has proven himself to be a gentle, low-key companion outside his kennel. He has shown positive progress with both staff and volunteers, responding to patience and kindness with quiet affection and soft tail wags. He enjoys being close to his handlers, leaning in for pets, and even laying down at their feet once he feels comfortable. Baz has also participated in playgroup with polite, appropriate behavior toward other dogs. His consistent handling notes describe him as sweet, easy to walk, and well-mannered on leash, although one person noted reactivity through the kennel. Due to his length of stay, Baz is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter. VIDEOS: Pets for Baz: https://youtube.com/shorts/O2kMoXGuiNU?feature=shared Playgroup 7/5: Bandit, Rainbow Bright, Baz: https://youtu.be/UWQJLvtuIG4 Playgroup 7/5: Bandit, Rainbow Bright, Baz (2): https://youtu.be/673qjeOZY-A Playgroup 7/5: Rainbow Bright, Baz: https://youtu.be/j0IdwlsS6jw BEHAVIOR: Per staff 7/22: Baz was hard barking at me through the kennel. It had the plastic barrier on it, but when my hand was close, he was snapping. Per staff 7/19: Low energy. Super good boy walks well. Per staff 7/15: Easy to walk, very sweet. Per volunteer 7/13: Baz was a lowkey gentleman today! I enjoyed taking him for a little stroll and to do the monthly photoshoot. He was easy to handle and leaned into butt scratches. Per staff 7/3: In kennel Baz had soft eyes with a tucked tail and tense body. when i approached he started low growling and hard barking at me. I opened the kennel door to which he backed up. I offered the leash to sniff and he came forward allowing easy leashing. He pulled minimal to moderately and went to the bathroom outside. in the yard he was super curious with low tail wags and came right up to sit near my feet. he allowed all handling and leaned back to give me some kisses. he was a bit nervous but curious of the other handler in the yard but kept his distance. he finally laid down at my feet, soliciting for pets but refusing treats and toys. he is a super handsome and easy going boy outside. Although he's quite nervous, he warms up quickly, approaching the other handler with kisses. Per finder: Hesitant towards strangers but sweet once warmed up. Fine on leash. Friendly, shy, scared, very sweet once he knew I was nice. MEDICAL: On 7/7, Baz was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on doxycycline. He tested positive for pneumovirus, but retested negative on 7/15. After his course of doxycycline, he was still symptomatic, so he was prescribed a course of azithromycin which he is scheduled to be on until 7/30. During his intake exam on 7/2, Baz appeared to be in good health overall, with just slight wax on his ears and slight staining on his teeth. He weighed 75.5 pounds. He was QAR, timid, but handled well for vaxx, just curious. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Baz, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
