My story

Meet Midnight, a sweet and sensitive Shih Tzu who’s looking for a quiet place to call home. Midnight was originally surrendered to our friends at Thomas J. O'Connor because his previous owner no longer had the time to care for him. He was described as cuddly and affectionate once he’s comfortable, and he enjoys going for walks and being near his person. Shelter life has been a bit overwhelming for Midnight, and he can be nervous in new situations and around unfamiliar people. He’ll need a patient, understanding adopter who can give him time to settle in at his own pace. A quiet, adult-only home will be the best fit for him. Midnight isn’t fully house trained and may have accidents, so he’ll benefit from a consistent routine and gentle guidance. He hasn’t shown much interest in other dogs at the shelter, but he may be OK living with a calm, mellow canine companion. If you’re looking for a low-key buddy and have the time and patience to help a shy little dog feel safe, Midnight may be your match. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
