*** Tom is in a foster home. ***Tom #19847: gray/brown tabby & white, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 6/1/23Cats: goodDogs: unknownChildren: unknown, preferably adultsBACKGROUND: Tom was found in a colony of cats being fed by a caretaker who noted that he was friendly and knew that he could have a much better life living in his own home with his own dedicated people; she reached out to The Rescue House on his behalf.PERSONALITY: Tom bears the scars of needing to scrounge to survive and has gladly been relaxing in his foster home. This docile and gentle-natured boy enjoys calm and gentle interactions; you can quietly give him strokes and spend quality companionable time with him. He loves sunbeams and will often bask on a windowsill where he can watch the world as well as soak up the warmth. Tom is starting to want to play a little when you bring out a wand toy and a trackball tower has also gotten his attention. We look forward to seeing him fully flourish!COMPATIBILITY: Tom is comfortable with the other cats and kittens in his foster home though he doesn’t interact too much. We haven’t seen him around dogs or children. Since Tom prefers gentle touches and not to be grabbed or handled, we don’t think younger kids would be a good fit and recommend a home with adults or calm and respectful teens. Will this sweetie win your heart? While healthy, Tom has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This is a type of virus that typically causes some weakening of a cat’s immune system. It is a cat-only virus and cannot be spread through casual friendly contact between cats. FIV+ cats can and do live quite normal lives in quality, duration, and happiness. A good informative website is FIVCats.com.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tom, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
