My story

Name: Iris Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 11 weeks old (as of 3/20/25) Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd Mix Weight: About 10-15 lbs (as of 3/20/25) Lives With: Dogs, cats and people (including kids!)! Housebroken? Not yet, she’s just a puppy and started working on her potty training! Story: Iris was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Iris is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Iris is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Iris will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Iris is a smart, affectionate young pup and is about as sweet as they come! She sleeps through the night in her crate, loves her meals, and is eager to please—especially when treats are involved! Iris is making great progress with potty training and already knows to do her business outside (just a few more accident-free days to go!). She enjoys strolls and is getting the hang of destination walks on the leash. Whether she’s chewing on a favorite toy, playing with her canine pals, or just soaking up the household hustle, Iris fits right in. She has experienced both city and country living and adapts well to new environments. If you are looking for a loving, food-motivated, and adaptable companion, Iris might be your perfect match! The fee to adopt Iris is $475. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Iris has been seen by a shelter vet and was given a clean bill of health.
