A5707525 Say hello to Dug , a 3-year-old German Shepherd with a sleek, velvety black coat and alert, expressive ears that never miss a thing. He’s a striking boy who stands out from the crowd, not just for his rare coloring but for the gentle soul hiding beneath his fear. Dug came in with another dog, Saoirse, possibly his sibling, and has had some difficulty adjusting. The shelter environment has left him a bit scared and shut down - but don’t let his nervous kennel demeanor fool you. Outside of the chaos, Dug shows glimpses of the sweet, affectionate dog he’s longing to be, even leaning in for comfort during a quiet moment with a volunteer. He needs a kind, patient adopter or foster willing to go slow, offer reassurance, and help him rebuild his confidence. If you're ready to invest in trust and love, Dug will reward you with unwavering loyalty and the joy of watching him become his truest, happiest self. -3 year old black German Shepherd -80 pound neutered male -may need the standard round of shots and preventatives before you can take him home, but the shelter can likely help with this! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 6/18/25 as a stray -plush, velvety black pup with perky ears always at attention - very striking and handsome, with a unique pure black look that really sets him apart from his breed's classic colorway -came in with another dog, Saoirse A5707524 , who could be a sibling -very scared, nervous, and wary in the shelter environment - but don't let the wall he puts up in the kennel turn you off! -at the shelter, Dug may come across as too freaked out to do much of anything, but even in the short time he spent with a volunteer, his true nature began to peek out -despite his fear, he was easy to leash and take in and out of the kennel, and when given the time to decompress, he got close to his handler and leaned in for comfort and affection - when given the time and space to shake off his fear and build his trust and confidence, Dug warms up beautifully -needs a kind and patient adopter or foster willing to take the time to go slow, be gentle, and take the time to foster trust and goodwill -Dug may need a little extra finesse and some more work than other pups at the shelter, but you'll be richly rewarded with watching him open up and relax into who he's always been meant to be, and he'll give you all his love and loyalty in return DUG’S VIDEO: https://youtu.be/HlLAFlm2rp0 For more information, contact volunteer Lisa at lisaa@unitedhopeforanimals.org Photo Credit @Bea Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center https://animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER.
